For a brown ale - try Lost Coast Downtown Brown.

Hey guys- I am DEAD serious when I say this. Get to a local Bevmo and score a sixer of Lagunitas Brown Shugga' Ale. HOLY CRUD! It's 9.9% alc content but I don't think I have ever tasted anything this strong that is this smooth. It kicks the Stone stuff all over the place in the smooth department (although taste I will reserve judgement for now). DO IT!

I don't think I have ever seen it on tap

Samuel Smith's is probably the best I have found locally for the brown ales, but the best I have had is Brooklyn Brown. I haven't found any of Brooklyn Brewing's beer out here.
