Yeah, I think a rich malty beer would overpower any sushi and some of the more flavorful fish would just clash. With sushi I'd stick to "lighter" styles. First craft brew that comes to mind is Firestone DBA. I think that would probably pair very nicely. Any pale ale (Sierra Nevada, anyone?) would be a good choice and I might even try a regular IPA, thought probably not a DIPA.

To put my money where my mouth is, today I had some Lost Abbey Angel's Share (heavenly, pun intended) and tonight cracking a growler of Ladyface Bluebelly barleywine. Mmmmmm, delicious!

I assume this year. Dark, heavy, malty and sweet. Good amount of bourbon in it. Not as thick and chewey as perhaps an imp stout, but still viscous enough to coat the mouth. I had it at Ladyface in Agoura, BTW. They might still have it on tap tonight but it probably won't last much longer.

to be honest with you, I'd stick with Japanese beers to pair up with sushi, just because I'm old fashioned.
I BELIEVE I'll have another beer!

If you like their winter solstice but in a lighter easier to drink on a hot day form the Summer Solstice is a definite hit. I'll be drinking this brew a lot!
