Thread: The recommend-a-beer thread

Got this years version. Huge "Bret" flavor profile. Huge. I LOVE this stuff. As he says in the video, "not for the faint of heart". If you don't like big flavors and smells, this is not the beer for you. It doesn't taste like anything else that I can note for comparison sake. I'd just suggest finding a bottle, buying it, and sharing with other beer friends. It's delicious.

While I won't say Guinness here in Ireland is much different, it does seem to be a tad more robust.

I just got a 4 pack of this stuff. Anyone had it yet?

best bet is to shop for it at Whole Foods. don't bother stopping by the brewery because they hardly have it in stock as WAW sells out quickly.

In Ireland on vacation with friends. Needless to say we've had our share of Guinness and Jameson. To settle the issue of how Guinness tastes here in Ireland compared to back home: it really isn't much different. A tad more barley depth, but that's about it. We plan on going to St James Gate when we're in Dublin, so I'll confirm there.

As for other beers, there's been Murphy's and Beamish. Tried a pint of Bonaparte Stout which while good, wasn't a whole lot different than Guinness, or Murphy's and Beamish to be honest.

Two surprises has been Galway Hooker and Caladonia Smooth. Both medium bodied ales that were quite tasty. Hope to get more later. If there is a craft beer scene here it must be in it's infancy. Heineken and Carlsberg seem to be quite popular here for some reason.

Oh, and you can find Bud, MGD, Coors, and Corona pretty easily. Not that I would try.

Funny enough, the young bartender (very cool lad) we met at Courtney's Pub said he preferred Guinness to Murphy's because he said Murphy's was far too sweet. I could only imagine the mind:blown if he had some American craft beer. Dark Lord? Haha.

Taps Pumpkin Ale. go find it and try it. I'm serious.

Finally found a proper craft beer bar here in Ireland (Porterhouse Brewery in Dublin). Figures it would be on our last night here. They had SNPA on tap and it nearly brought a tear to my eye. They had some Brooklyn Brewery stuff but no black chocolate stout. I had a pint of their oyster stout and it was pretty damn good. You definietly get a different flavor from that style. Minerally and kinda briney. Heading back to L.A. Today.

has anyone tried any pumpkin beers lately?

Epic Pumkin Porter was surprisingly good, as was Uinta Punk'n Ale.
