The CA wine industry owes a lot to him thats for sure.

He is to California wine as Brigham Young is to Latter Day Saints....he didn't start it, but he certainly was the most influential....

I had the previliage of meeting him once at his winery. His winery hosted a lunch for my wife and I as we were touring Opus one and his winery. He just got back from a trip to Chile and although he was obviously tired came over and said hi and thanked us for coming to visit his winery. A truly class act guy and he will be missed by all in the wine industry.
