Thread: Roy's Restaurants! I need opinions...

I've only been to Roy's in NYC, I thought the food was pretty good, from what I remember. I was also with my friend who lists Roy's as her favorite restaurants ever, so I might have been convinced that the food was better than it actually was.

Anyway, I was curious as to what other people who have eaten there thought. Is it worth the prices? Overrated? Anything in particular that's a "must have"? Anything in particular that I should steer clear off? I was looking into maybe going to the one in Anaheim...

Anything you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

p.s. If you have restaurant suggestions that are along the lines of Roy's food wise, but better - I'll take those too.

i've been to the ones in maui, rancho mirage and newport beach. i like it. i get different stuff every time though. i would have to say you should try their chocolate soufflé. i liked that a lot and i'm not even really that big on chocolate.
when i go, i usually get seafood. i've had two different scallop dishes and a prawn dish. the other time i was there, we had a family style dinner with a bunch of different things. it was all really good, especially the spare ribs.
as for the prices... i'd say they're justified for the most part except one of the times i got scallops, one or some of them had sand in them still. meh.

Roy's in Newport is nothing short of great. Their chocolate souffle' is as good as I've had.

I've only been once and wasn't impressed. We went to the location in Woodland Hills and got the Macadamia crusted Mahi and all it did was remind me why I never order Mahi. It's always dry even when you pay $29 for it. The restaurant was also hot as hell. It's almost as if the AC was broken or it just couldn't keep up.

The whole reason we went was because some very good friends wanted to take us out to celebrate our engagement. The waiter completely failed and never mentioned a thing. When you're paying that type of money, your servers better be on top of their game.

If given the opportunity to go back with friends, I'll certainly give it another shot but I'm not dying to go there.

Hopefully others had a better experience.

Pretty good stuff if you are into "fine" Hawaiian fusion. In addition to every location mentioned here so far, I've been to the one in Vegas.

Although....gimme the down & dirty Back Home in Lahaina any day to satisfy my down & dirty Hawaiian obsession and I am a happy boy.

Never been and probably never will Roy and his brother ripped my company off and still owe us about $4k. Court date is later this month...

Really?? That can't be good. Good luck in your court case.

Went to the LA one for my roommates birthday in August... I'm not a fish fan - but the food was great. Both my roommates had a fish dinner that had a few different dishes - said it was all good, but they LOVED the butter fish. We had an appetizer thing too - they said the sushi was some of the best they've had.

The pineapple martini was pretty yummy too.

I've eaten at Roy's Downtown LA.
Can't say I loved the food.
Since I live downtown I'd rather go to a sushi joint in Little Tokyo for fish.
Plus, I don't get the high priced Hawaiian food concept.

My boss LOVES that place.
As do many other fine folks. The place was packed the time I went.

I will say this, I got ripped at Roy's.

They make a nice drink.
