schooner or later.
Im looking for a locals review of this place that was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives: TV: Food Network. I dont trust Guy Fieri as far as he could be thrown.
Is it all hype or is it worth the drive??

Its an hours drive involving the 91 and the 22. So yes Mark, just like it's too difficult for the LA/OC contingent to drive any distance East for hockey, it is a long drive away for me to get waffles...

Me and some friends went after one of my friends saw the review on the show. When we got there I realized I had been there before for breakfast. We went on a sunday for lunch at around 1 and waited an hour to be seated. It's right on the harbor by the boats with a very cool and laid back vibe. They have a small bar outside that you can get drinks from while you wait. I think the dish they reviewed on the show was the Mess, which was basically an omelet with everything thrown in, or maybe more like a scramble like you would get at Dennys. A few of my friends got it and didn't think it was anything special. I got a reuben sandwich which I thought was pretty good. The service sucked though. Waitress got a few of the orders pretty wrong, including a completely different dish for one of my friends, and she never came back for refills and when we did get her attention she didn't even refill everyone's drinks. We finally flaged down another waitress to help us out. Prices aren't bad at all for what it's worth.
So the food is not bad, nothing special either. It's a cool location with a fun vibe, but the service wasn't the best. I'd probably go back, just not during prime hours. They aren't open for dinner either, just lunch and breakfast. The first time I went for breakfast was on a weekday about 9 months ago and it was dead and much better service. That's probably when I would go back. I hope that helps you out Ruely.

I don't trust any guy with platinum blond spikes and a black beard. Just a personal policy.

My boat used to be docked just outside Schooner or Later. Food good...wait and service horrible.
As far as Alamitos Bay area goes, I enjoy the Shorehouse much more.

My wife went and said it was great there. She loved The Mess.
