Started a New Diet and Need Some Insurance
Hi Everyone,
I’m doing this as a matter of insurance. You might think I’m a dork (and you're absolutely right), but I need someone to keep me accountable, and this form of insurance is considered to be the most effective. So here goes…
I’m going to Cancun in the end of March, and I’ve put on a few lbs of fat with the Cup run last year, a summer of drinking all the Stanley Cup Bud Lights, too many slices of pizza and a love for donuts that knows no bounds. I’m a little bit heavier than I’d like to be, but not much though. Fortunately (and unfortunately to some degree) I’m one of those people that pretty much weigh the same regardless of what I eat and drink. I hover around 214-216 lbs, and I’ve been this way for about 5 years now. For scale, I’m 6’5”, so 214 isn’t fat, but it ain’t slim. I want to drop a few pounds by the time I get to Cancun, so I’m modifying my eating habits. Even if I don't lose weight, which is entirely possible with my metabolisim, I'm hoping to lose inches.
Not sure how many of you have read the book 4 Hour Body by Tim Ferriss, but I’ve read about half of it and found it interesting. I especially found the weight loss chapters interesting and very intuitive. Say what you want about the guy, but I’ve read that quite a few people have lost a bunch of weight following his rules with the slow carb diet. So I’m going to give it a shot.
In a nut shell, 6 days a week eat lots lean protein, lots of legumes (bad for people in elevators with me) and lots of vegetables, and then on the 7th day… a cheat day where you eat whatever the **** you want. On the normal 6-says, no white carbs, no carbs that are non-legume or vegetable oriented, pretty much nothing white except cauliflower. No milk, soy, skim or half & half, no cheese. Drink tons of water and try to remain faithful to the diet. He claims that in 30-40 days I will lose about 10-15 pounds, which I am totally cool with.
Now I know many of you away from the board, Calo, Lappy, DougW8 and many others from the LGK games, and you know that I’m a man of my word and not an attention whore. So the insurance is that if I don’t keep with the diet, Calo posts the before photos of me (SFW and not ghey) and my gut for all of you to mock me. Mods, if you feel that this is inappropriate, feel free to delete the thread. I won’t be offended. I understand your position.
I’m going to try to do semi-weekly progress reports and photos of what I’m eating, especially on my cheat day.
Also, if any of you have done this before, how’d things go for you? Do you have any recipes? For that matter, does anyone have any recipes they want to share that are low carb? The diet lends itself to Mexican food without rice, cheese and sour cream, so I’m trying to branch out from that and expand my culinary horizons.
Hopefully in 40 days, I’ll be down 10 lbs or so.
D
