May finally get the real custard in Mission Viejo. New Italian Ice Cream shop (Rita's) from Philly says:
Q. Tell me about your custard, which is growing in popularity in Southern California.
A. It's made from a supplier in New Jersey and shipped all over the world. We use so much butter fat in it. If you're going to indulge, indulge in the best possible you can get. The level of fanaticism is similar, if not equal, to In-N-Out Burger. It is unbelievable.

I love frozen custard. Everytime I travel to the midwest I get my fix :)
Frozen custard from Ted Drewes in St. Louis was always a favorite of mine when I would visit family there in the summer. I've had Ted Drewes shipped to me too, lol.
The richest frozen stuff I eat now is gelato maybe once every couple of months.
I rather eat custard as a creme brulee, creme caramel, a flan or a savory japanese chawanmushi.
Just spotted a sign for Rita's frozen custard ( started in Philadelphia). Grand opening 7-29 in Mission Viejo at the Kaleidoscope. Hoping it's the real thing (not like Stricklands).
