Umami Burger
I check this place out yesterday with the familia. It's a bit expensive, but the burgers are pretty darn tasty. I had the port and stilton burger which was cooked perfectly. The port added a good amount of sweetness to contrast the stilton cheese. The hubby got the Casablanca burger, which was ground leg of lamb, merguez sausage, pickled apricots, and pomegranate aioli - which sounds a bit pretentious, but it was an incredible burger. We also had the onion rings, which are tempura battered and yummy. The one item that was "ok" were the fries. They are big blocks that are reminiscent of tater tots. I liked them, but they are definitely a love'em or hate'em item.
Anyway, there are three locations about town (a little one in the Fred Segal in SaMo, the main one in Mid-Wilshire and the Los Feliz outpost. ). Check them out.

Ha...we pass this all the time on the way back from Kings games. Good to know, thanks!

You're welcome! I guess the LA Times and I were on the same wavelength, they did a review on the Los Feliz location yesterday.

Mmmmm. Looks and sounds GREAT.
Lessee....... I'll have a Manly burger, sweet potato fries, and a red rice ale. O-negai shimasu. :aikido:

Los Feliz Umami for me. Tahnk God Cobras and Matadors is gone. Although I liked the steak house that was there before it was C and M. Hillmont. Everything was ordered a la cart and you sat at communal tables.
Anyway, I got the Manly Burger which had chunks of bacon that made it for me.
Umami Burger tasted like pizza. But I think it was supposed to.
Sweet potato fries were nutmeg-y, I liked that a lot.
Pickle tray had all kinds of different pickled things.
The ice cream is from Milk. I liked it but will hold CoolHaus up higher.
My waiter was adorable. Had a little ponytail and a face like an angel. Is the thumb ring back for the early 20s set? I mean, as if the little ponytail isn't enough?
Just want to keep up with the kids.

thumb ring and ponytail?! ugh. did he smell like patchouli, too?!
anyway, annapurna's recent burger posts have left me drooling. damn, i want one now!

Nice! I love all burgers--especially pretentious burgers. I'm going to check and see if they have one with foie gras.

I wanted to check this place out when I was last in LA but I couldn't remember the name of it. I'm definitely visiting the next time I'm in town. BTW, umami is my 2nd favorite foreign word. Right after schadenfreude.
