Went to Stone Brewery
It was pretty cool, especially the free beer tasting. My favorite was the Smoked Porter. I bought a 2 liter growler of the stuff. I also tried the bistro. They had a Meatless Monday promo going on, which I know some people aren't in to but I don't mind the occasional vegetarian meal. Then I found out later after I had ordered that you could get the regular menu as well as the meatless one so I was pretty pissed & was about to tell them to cancel my order. But I looked at the menu & there wasn't anything better than what I had ordered, which was the Tempeh Shepherd's Pie. It was a lot better than I thought it would be, pretty good actually. Overall though, the menu is way overpriced & kind of froo-froo, so I probably won't go back, except for maybe appetizers at the bar. But I will be going back for the tour & to refill my growler.

I forgot to mention that I did try the beer float, which is made with smoked porter & vanilla ice cream. That was good. Also, they show movies every Wednesday night from now until September. One of the movies is Twilight - New Moon with commentary by Rifftrax, which are members of Mystery Science Theater. Too bad I'll be working that day.

I was listening to MARKETPLACE on NPR yesterday and they had a story about how the guys at Stone Brewery are trying to expand a brewery to Europe. Not just shipping beers that way but brewing them. Pretty interesting read.

I was just there a couple weeks back. Pretty cool place, although we went on a Friday and the tours were all booked solid. Was impressed with their Smoked Porter with Chipotle they had on cask.
Funny to compare the trendy style of Stone (awesome beer) to the awkward little garage of Green Flash (way awesomer beer) just a few minutes away.

Spot on! One day we hit up both breweries, and I had a much better time at Green Flash in their "garage" type setup where everybody is just standing, hanging around. Far better than the eloquent Stone bistro and beer that is just as good, but much less expensive! I didn't feel as if I were being spied on the whole time either, or rushed for that matter.

Stone is nice to hang out in, they just got a new chef so i would wait on eating there. Let him figure the menu out first. We usually just order a appetizer of Humus and forgo eating dinner there. I need to go to Flash, it is on my list. I work in San Marcos and we usually have Beer Fridays at Chruchill's. They have a very nice selection of micro brews.

my in-laws used to go to churchill's every weekend. I've been there once with them. I even have a tank top from there that my mother-in-law bought for me.
