A simple old fashioned PB&J does the trick everytime. I usually toast up the bread to make the peanut butter slightly melt. I will eat those forever.

Dude, Portillo's in Buena Park has that sandwich. Portillo's is a chicago style hot dog eatery place, so get one.

There used to be a deli called PJ Bernsteins off Alicia Parkway in Mission Viejo that had a really, really good reuben. It was outrageous. I miss it.
Any good reuben is my favorite. I make the best one, but sometimes it is easier to go out for one.

The local sandwich spot just got a paninni machine and now I am loving these crunchy delicacies. It almost doesn't matter what's inside as long as there is some meat and some kind ot cheese. Turkey and provalone are my faves.
Hot ham and cheese
Having lived out here in L.A. for 10 years, I'd often heard about Philippe's but had never tried it. Recently, while in White Memorial Hospital for surgery, I had a friend drop by there and pick up a beef dip for lunch. I was far less than impressed.
However, being one to give a restaurant a second chance, I went with my landlord after a doctor's office visit and ate there... had a beef dip with jack cheese, macaroni salad, potato salad and a slice of lemon meringue pie. The sandwich was MUCH better than the one that arrived at the hospital! The macaroni and potato salads reminded me of what mom always made, a great "home made" flavor to them. And if I didn't know better, I'd swear my grandmother was in their kitchen making the pie!!
I've got another doctor's visit this Friday down at LA County/USC Hospital. You can bet I'll be hitting Philippe's for lunch!
Philippe's dip sandwiches are the kind that you have to eat right away. Never get them to go. I like the lamb and bleu cheese sandwich.
