Also on the circuit in those days was Pan Asia Mongolian BBQ, Pierce Street Annex and The Harp all on 17th street. Not sure if any of those places still exist.
Oh and the Del Taco and Tower Records that were on the corner there.
For a while it was it was a hot spot for the local Marines though. Can't remember the years, all a bit hazy now that I'm older. Still was the ONLY place back then to have more than Bud and Coors on tap.Quote:

i think when i was going to goathill, the helm was on its last legs so it might have gone down in quality and therefore come off as creepy. i don't know... but it's closed now and there's something else in its place.Quote:

I don't really consider my local and favorite pub a "bar" (no hard alchohol, locals typically, family welcome) but I'll throw the name out there since it is my favorite spot to relax with good people, catch a game on tv, and have great beer or wine with excellent food. It doesn't hurt that I went to school with the owners kids before they opened, so I've know the family forever. And they opened the year I turned 21. Might have to stop in for a tall Sierra Nevada after work!

oh nvm, i was wrong. i thought you were talking about the mother's that was on 17th. that one is now a sprouts. must've moved to 19th, the location you're talking about, then. i never knew about the borders that was on 19th before that. i mostly go around 16th & 17th, so i know that del taco you all are talking about although i hate del taco, haha. that tower location has been empty for the longest time but i remember going there when i was in college because a friend of mine worked there and he'd give me all this promo stuff of bands i liked. that was fun.Quote:

Down in San Diego, the Mira Mesa Inn was fantastic, mostly because the patrons in the bar provided hours of entertainment. I'm not even sure the bartender knew he was supposed to charge for beer. I think it has since closed.
Out hear I have grown a large fondness for Brendan's in Agoura Hills. Great beer, in a whiskey club there, and haven't been disappointed with food choices yet. (corned beef sliders...yumm....)
The Stag! Whew, that was really bugging me. It was behind the old Mesa Theater (which was an awesome theater, used to show surf flicks) and it was an old piano bar. It reminded me of The Fling in Orange.Quote:

Like I said, I grew up by an L.A county beach, so we have a bias against OC beaches. Not that there aren't snob filled beach cities in L.A. mhihi:
But gosh, lol, if this thread isn't making me go bar hopping Orphy style! :D I am too old for that though. It's more of an undergrad college thing. ;)
