All these places we're talking about are right on the border of Newport and Costa Mesa. Costa Mesa did have some really cool places. I used to go to Detroit all the time, too.

i drive from san diego for johnnys in hb. no desire to try the other johnny's. i also dig the mai thai bar place in downtown long beach, and bosons/ lazy dog is pretty cool in ontario. but yeah johnnys 9 out of 10 times
John Barleycorn's in Chicago is a hell of a way to start a 21st birthday, particularly with their long island ice tea's. Just an FYI if you're in the neighborhood

The Olde Ship is good. Also agree with whoever mentioned Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach. Great food & large collection oficrobrews. Also down Main St in Seal Beach is 320 Main. Amazing drinks if you are willing to try. I forget what they call it, but one drink had dijon mustard in it. Sounded disgusting but it was amazing!
