So someone grew up in Glendale like me and these were many of the places I frequented back in the day.

Other good ones: Joe Josts in LB (complete and utter dive - "schooner and a special please"), Curlys in LB/Signal Hill (another dive with a great burger), Hoolihan's (now closed) in LB, J Sloans in Hollywood (this was quite the place in the late '80's/early '90's).

Now if I am driving I don't drink at all as I have too much to lose (i.e. my family). But I love a good Irish pub or German bierhaus (Hofbrau). And the Penalty Box is very cool if you can get in there. Got a great local Irish place in the Pacific NW (no joke this is the name): Shawn O'Donnell's. Best burger in town and best Guiness pour around.

Your mention of Long Beach, brings back memories of watching football on Sundays at the Clipper Lounge. It was such a dive, with a very mixed bag of customers, but every game was on, and the food was decent and cheap.

A great place on a nice morning is in Los Alamitos Bay - Schooner or Later - where you can get a great breakfast and good drinks. The best part of this place is the small boat marina that it sits by. Many memories of good breakfasts here.

One other thing - I am a huge lover of "dive" bars. They have the most spirit and atmosphere.

If you are lucky enough to get to Curley's, make sure you check out the men's room wall paper. From a bygone era is all I will say ...

There's a place that opened up within a stone's throw of where I live in Pasadena. It's not a bar, but they do serve happy hour on their signature beer whenever the Kings are playing. It's pretty good beer, the food is great, and the TVs are so massive you feel like the game is being played around you. I know it's cheaper to drink at home, but damn, the TVs make it tough for me.

    Big Daddy
The burgers are flat out awesome, they have other really good sandwiches, wings and good inexpensive beer... what more could you want? And the thing is within drunken stumbling distance from my pad.

I'll be at the Penalty Box for the home opener, but the other games will probably be spent here.

I can vouch for daxx. This place is pretty sweet. Didn't try the beer but the TVs are like a 360 and HUGE.

Dames and Games has a pretty sweet sports bar setup. The food is better than Hooters plus there is a "gentleman's" club attached. Not sure if they are hockey fans. Decent happy hour to boot.

Maybe it was just hyped up too much by our friends. Don't get me wrong, it was very good. Even our friends who go there a lot said that the burger has slipped a little bit recently. I was expecting the meat to be a little thicker (shut up). The fries were amazing.

Seriously, go to the Tripple and try it out. Amazing. Also, the City Tavern in Culver City has an amazing burger as well.
One thing I didn't ask....which burger did you get? They usually offer a seasonal burger, as well as two regular burgers. The Backyard burger is good, but not spectacular. The Back Abbey Burger is the one that I think is supreme. I have only had one or two that weren't good, and it was because they were overcooked.

Naja's Place in Redondo Beach. Excellent craft beer selection and I love the divey atmosphere. I am there every week.

The Jost was always great...the special and some PBR. Although I hear that the PBR is no more.
