    Default Whole Foods Market?

I was watching some show about Supermarkets and they featured Whole Foods Market. I like how they take care to use off brand, small, local sources for food and the quality and service are job 1. I also saw that you have to pay dearly for these features but some things are worth a little more. For instance, they buy their salmon fresh from actual fishermen in Sitka, Alaska who use lines and hooks instead of nets.

Anyone have any recommendations on some of your favorite items at Whole Foods? I'd like to try it out since there is one a few miles away in Long Beach. I went there once to get my LA Kings chocolate milk but didn't look around too much.

All of it. Just wander around, they have great stuff.

I wish there was one closer to me.

You're better off with Trader Joe's you won't have to spend near as much for the same quality stuff.

If they have a butcher I do recommend them for special cuts. Korean short ribs are always a pain to get otherwise.

this. and WF isn't as totally naturally organic as they could get, in a GMO kinda way.

this. i usually get their grassfed beef, wild caught fish and local organic produce. i used to shop at that long beach location when i was pregnant because there weren't any close to me but we have one in HB now. i just dropped $150 today there though.
i spent all that on a bunch of citrus, artisan cheese, mousse pâté, beer, clams, fish, sirloin, coolhaus icecream sandwiches, rainbow carrots, etc. i also like their fresh baked bread but i didn't get any of that today.

i find trader joe's can be good for other things, like i'll buy all my dairy (my daughter's yogurt, milk, eggs, etc) and packaged foods (canned, frozen, etc) there because it's cheaper while also healthy, but i do prefer the meat and produce at WF more. to me, they're not the same, but good for different things.

At the WF by my place in Pasadena they have a lounge upstairs that you can get food, wine, beer... just about anything you want at the store at cost. They even have a happy hour. The really interesting thing is this lounge area has a very european cafe feel to it. I love it. The wifey and I usually get a cheese plate and a couple glasses of wine each for under $20. If you get to know the guys who run the lounge, they even kick down on occasion. The other bonus... they've got a friggin' tv in there so guys can watch Sport Center while the wife spends all their $$$.

    Good times!

They have a nice beer selection, with a few that aren't readily available elsewhere. I usually stop at the one on PCH in Long Beach when I am heading to Seal Beach. I also like the Brioche Hamburger Buns, which my Trader Joe's no longer carries.
