Zankou is ****ing awesome.
It's on Sepulveda/Santa Monica on the Westside.
true story:
i was in pasadena over spring break (i teach at iowa state), attending a conference. i got a hankering for zankou so powerful i walked 3/4 of a mile to get a half-bird plate, then walked back to my hotel so i could eat it in reclining splendor. it was damn tasty, and well worth the walk.
I need one in the South Bay or Long Beach. I'm too lazy to go to Hollywood or the Westside or OC for that matter to try Zankou.
I want to though. I LOVE Lebanese garlic sauce.
Yes, that would God's hummus.
I have only gone to the Hollywood location. I didn't detect a difference in the garlic sauce this trip... although this time the panhandler out front was really friendly and coherent.
I actually gave him my change.
And to that end, let me add that the WHOLE chicken plus the falafel plate (5 falafel, hummus, the peppers and pickles Otto mentioned, tomato, lettuce, pitas) cost under $18.
It fed 3 people on Saturday and 2 people on Sunday.
Pretty awesome.
WHAT THE **** WE HAVE A ZANKOU IN OC?
christ!!!!!! I had no idea!!! dialing this **** up on google now!
