    Combo the trip with something else, like a trip to Griffith Observatory or a tour of Hollyhock House (I'm a docent, it's a great house) and make a day of it.
    A day at the Observatory followed by copious amounts of garlicky chicken, garlic sauce and fattoush or whatever salad they have - sounds WONDERFUL.

    Oh, and here is the link for Open Sesame in Belmont.

    Open Sesame :: Home

    The fried potatoes are out of this world good. especially with a side of garlic sauce. Everything tastes better with garlic sauce.

    Zankou is ****ing awesome. I love their chicken tarna. The garlic sauce is also really good with the pita.

    I may finally have to see that Aquarium down there in Long Beach and make my own combo!

    i ALWAYS get the fried potatoes at open sesame.

    oh, and i forgot to add earlier that i'm disappointed in the falafels at the zank. tried if for the first time yesterday and i was not impressed.

    also, if you're anywhere near the valley there's also a little place on nordhoff and reseda next to vons called pita pockets. i don't know of what descent their food is cuz it's a bit non-traditional as they actually use the pocket of the pita for sandwiches, but they are stuffed to the brim and really really filling. They also have laffas, which is the flat bread style sandwich and is even bigger.

    I've heard other people complain about their falafels. I've only had them once and it was a while ago so I don't remember much. For me, the 1/2 chicken plate, the chicken tarna plate, or the beef shawerma plate is all I ever get. I could eat that stuff all day long.

    Another falafel place in the valley is Amir's Falafel on Ventura & Colfax. I've eaten there and was very impressed.

    I'd love to know if there's still a Zankou in the O.C. (Wasn't there one a few years ago in Anaheim Hills?) Roscoe's is great, especially the one in downtown Long Beach. Whenever Mr. G and I got a hankering for that super-savory fried stuff, we'd pile into his car and get our butts over there. Pure bliss.

    I have one up the street from my office, so I'm there at least once a week for lunch. I can still terrorize people with my garlic burps at 10 p.m.!

    Food of the Gods. Unfortunately, they did go to the packaged garlic sauce which is not quite as good. Who the hell goes to ZC for the felafel, anyway?
