Thread: Zankou Chicken

OH DAMN YOU!!! Now I'm gonna have to hit up one soon.

Like most I've had better, but never had a problem with Zankou's falafel sandwich. Of course it was always lousy with extra tahini--and maybe garlic sauce too--but other than being a tad dry at times it was fine by me. Been a while so maybe something has changed, but cooked to order will always be better than laying out under that sun lamp and I'm sure they still do that.

Here's a question: I read a falafel article a few months ago on L.A. Times.com that referenced a joint just a few blocks from the Hollywood Zankou that's supposed to have the best in town. I believe they do it as their specialty and it sounded GREAT but can't remember the name. Anyone know?

I took a hike up to West LA yesterday to go to Wine House, where I picked up a lovely 2005 Domaine Bertagna Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits BTW. it's great, great wine for $24.99, but I digress.

I knew that Zankou Chicken was just up the street and I knew O had to have some. I purchased a 1/2 chicken plate and lamb shawerma plate + some extra garlic sauce to go. I made the trek back to Harbor City smelling that garlicky goodness thanking the Lord that traffic was good.

I have to say, Zankou is pretty darn good. Not as good as Open Sesame in Belmont, but close.

You took it home? The chicken skin gets soggy if you take it home. Like a Pink's hamburger, this is dive food that is best eaten at the dive.

My husband wanted some too. He did not accompany me to Wine House. I was trying to be nice. I couldn't just eat mine there and then bring his home. That wouldn't be nice. Honestly, it wasn't very soggy.

Stopped by the Anaheim location on Saturday and got myself a roasted chicken wrap - It had been a few months, forgot how good it was.

I found the name: Falafel Arax, on Santa Monica a few blocks from Zankou. Has anyone been there??? If so, can you please post a quick review?

I went to Zankou a couple weeks ago and I wasn't impressed. It didn't live up to the hype.
