Actually, wouldn't it be cool if there were a contest to design an alternate jersey? Any submissions, including those from professional designers would be welcome, so long as they agree to assign the rights to the design to the team if that design won. The prize doesn't even have to be huge - a lot of people would do it simply for pride or to get their name out there.
The team could narrow down their acceptable choices and then have the fans vote on the ultimate winner.
Has anyone in pro sports ever done this? I think it would be pretty cool.
So when is this "designer's" pre-school graduation so we can egg him ?
I can see the actual jersey being a cool design but the F-ing logo ? Really, AEG paid for that ?
I'd fire him like none other.
Is it just me or does him speaking of the direction of the team and having the logo face down worry anyone ?
Like everyone else, my initial reaction to the logo was, "that's it?" BUT since seeing it on the jersey I'm kind of liking the simplicity of the design.
I'm waiting to seeing it on the players and/or in person BEFORE I make a final judgment.
If you look at the classic chevron logo, it was just a chevron with letters in it. Look at the Ducks logo, it's not even a logo, it's just letters!. It has to get it's own identity and the identy is gonna be a bunch of bad ass dudes in dark black that will jack you up! Recunize!
I doubt there is a single professional athlete that is ever intimidated by a jersey. Who cares of the team looks "tough" in the jersey?
A team will look tough if they ARE tough. The jersey has nothing to do with it.
I can live with the black jersey if they would get rid of the black home jersey and/or redesign the regular jerseys all-together with a purple home. I also wouldn't mind the team going back to a more traditional crown.
I would love for the team to create a nice, classic, timeless jersey design and just stick with it like the original six. Of course that will never happen because there is too much money to be made when you redesign the jersey every 10 years or less.
When I saw the alternate jersey before training camp and then saw the negative take on it before the season started, I thought that people would find it interesting to know more about the process behind the jersey's development. I hope that is the case. Outside of the vocal majority on this site, the feedback is exceptionally high on the jersey.
I did the Ersberg interview. Work has been crazy and the timliness of the jersey's unveiling bumped those interviews first. Thanks for your patience on the Ersberg interview. He has the best sense of humor! I will post the blog soon. (I am also on my third bout of bronchitis since September... *ugh*)
