"Go Kings!", "Hell yeah! Kings!" "Yeah dude, Kings!"
That is what I heard all day. And it was cool.
I was at Comicon and wore a Kings jersey.
You may say "Wrong forum for this dude." But I don't think so, because this is not about Comicon, it is about how many people said or yelled "Go Kings!" to me today and how many people stopped me to talk about how excited they were about the Kings this upcoming season.
You may think Comicon is for geeks, nerds and fanboys and you would not be totally wrong. But I am not one of them. I go because it is a trip. I am a regular guy and today I wore a black Ivavanans jersey. "Ivanans?" you ask, yeah Ivanans. Long story short: it is a converted Allison jersey.
So right from the start while walking to the convention center I hear someone yell. "GO KINGS!", so I turn and see a group of guys in front of a bar. Two wearing Kings hats.
Once inside I probably had 4 or 5 other guys in Kings hats say something or flash a thumbs up from a distance. Other than those, half a dozen other people stopped me to talk about the Kings. Two sorta gave me a hard time for having an Ivanans jersey but when I explained why I changed it from being an Allison jersey they were cool with it.
Legendary artist Alex Ross stopped me as I was walking by to ask how the Kings were looking. He is not a Kings fan, or a hockey fan for that matter, he just wanted to know how they were going to do. When I said that things were looking up and I was excited about the upcoming season he said "Cool, good for them!"
Two security guards and a SDPD officer working traffic said "Go Kings!" to me. One security guy saying that even though he lives in SD he always been a Kings fan. I heard that from three different people. A guy and his wife and kid stopped me near Petco Park and said the same thing.
The best was before we left SD we stopped into "The Tilted Kilt" right next to Petco for some grub and brews. ( On a side note the waitresses wear short kilts and skimpy tops and they are all busty and hot!) So I go to use the restroom and a cute chick wearing a Chargers jersey intercepts me. I am thinking "Do I know this girl?" She says "I just had to stop you! I saw you across the room in a Kings jersey! Hell yeah!" then she explains that even though she has always lived in San Diego she has always loved the Kings.
I was shocked how many people said stuff about the Kings today. It was all day long. At one point, after about the tenth person said something, my brother looked at me said "What the hell is going on?" I replied, "I don't know, but I like it!" It was sort of strange, I have worn Kings gear all day long many times here in LA and not one person has said anything, but in San Diego, at Comicon, people were coming out of the woodwork.
It was cool. I am now even more excited about the upcoming season.
