C'mon. Quick was supposed to be THE MAN this season and we coulda traded Bernier before the start of this past season, right? Ersberg was gonna be the next solid goalie before that. And let's not forget how Jason LaBarbera was gonna lead us back to respectability if only we had been able to call him up that one season.
We had leads going into the 3rd in games 4 and 6. Sure, the goalie allowed goals to lose the lead, and that's a real simple way of looking at it, but it's not as if the team in front of him was keeping the play in the other end of the ice for the entire 3rd and there were just flukey goals that wobbled their way through a shaky goaltender. The TEAM played poorly, couldn't establish a forecheck to save their playoff lives and the TEAM lost those games.
Now, did Quick goalie go on an insane, head-standing performance (which it seems more than a few people DEMAND of any goaltender at all times)? Certainly not. And yeah, he was far from perfect. But there were much bigger issues in that series than simply the goaltending.
