Of the 16 playoff teams Kings were at #8 for Shots Against with a 31.2; the Canucks were 9th at 30.9 so it wasnt as if the Kings were giving up tons of Shots Against.

Bernier led all AHL goalies with a .939 SV% while the Monarchs avg 30.5 Shots against per game. So once again it wasnt as if the Monarchs were playing lights out hockey in terms of limiting opponents shots.
The TEAM played poorly in times of crisis, man. That's what lost us the series and Bernier does nothing to change that fact if he's in there. You just haven't seen enough of him to see consistent flaws yet so of course you think he'd be better.

C'mon. Quick was supposed to be THE MAN this season and we coulda traded Bernier before the start of this past season, right? Ersberg was gonna be the next solid goalie before that. And let's not forget how Jason LaBarbera was gonna lead us back to respectability if only we had been able to call him up that one season.

No. It's just that some people don't wear blinders when they watch the games. Pay attention to other things when you watch, man.

We had leads going into the 3rd in games 4 and 6. Sure, the goalie allowed goals to lose the lead, and that's a real simple way of looking at it, but it's not as if the team in front of him was keeping the play in the other end of the ice for the entire 3rd and there were just flukey goals that wobbled their way through a shaky goaltender. The TEAM played poorly, couldn't establish a forecheck to save their playoff lives and the TEAM lost those games.

Now, did Quick goalie go on an insane, head-standing performance (which it seems more than a few people DEMAND of any goaltender at all times)? Certainly not. And yeah, he was far from perfect. But there were much bigger issues in that series than simply the goaltending.

One... put your index finger, and only your index finger, up on either hand (but not both hands, just one).

    One even strength goal.

When a team that adjusts to it's competition and the problem is power play goals, I bet you can figure out the solution. Stop taking penalties and the other team doesn't score. One ****ing even strength goal isn't going to beat ANYONE in the playoffs. First round or otherwise.

    Goaltending was a problem.

But so was ALMOST EVERY OTHER ****ING PLAYER ON THE TEAM.

Where was Smyth with the dirty goals? Where were... **** it... if you don't get it, like three quarters of the rest of the board, I hope Bernier proves he's the head case that's he's shown us he can be. People who pin this **** on one guy on the TEAM don't deserve for their team to win a ****ing thing.

B-b-b-but... they SCORED more than us! If our goalie didn't allow more goals than the other goalie, we would have WON!

    It really is that simple!

Or is it I that am that simple?

You could just save some time when you write these and just post "The Kings lost/aren't going to win and it's the goalies fault".

You do realize the VAST difference between the AHL and NHL right? I mean, I need to know that you grasp that.

Now, let me preface this by saying that Jason LaBarbera is a serviceable NHL netminder, and not nearly as bad as his time on a HORRIBLE Kings team might indicate. (Of course, you probably disagree with this as well.)

But are you aware of what HIS stats were his last year with the Monarchs?

62 games played with a .933 save percentage, 2.20 GAA, 7 shut outs, and a record of 39-20-1.

Bernier just this last season had the following stats.

57 games played with a .936 save percentage, 2.03 GAA, 9 shut outs, and a record of... son of a bitch... 30-21-6.

So, while his GAA was better than LaBarbera's, his save percentage was just a hair better, and the most important stat as it applies to the team, (and I know it's hard for some to understand that word... team.) he had 9 less wins, one more loss, and 5 more ties. So in the world of a fan who puts it all on the goalie, you would actually fare better with LaBarbera in net (at least in Manchester) than Bernier. Further more, and I know I don't even need to say this, LaBarbera is no savior to any team.

So what exactly makes you (and those who also passionately await for Bernier, the obviously great savior of the Kings) so positive that Bernier would have fared any better than Quick or that he will be so much better than Quick?

Do you really need to take a walk down memory lane to remember and count how many players were absolute water walkers at the AHL level and then turned to **** once they hit the NHL?

Edit: Please don't say seven games, a 4-3 record, a 2.86 GAA, and a .890 save percentage at the NHL level.

As a reminder, last year Quick had a 39-24-7 record, a 2.54 GAA, and a .907 save percentage at the AHL level.

F*** that, man. Take a look at my reply to his post.

Quick was a water-walker after being called up last season and people were ready to trade Bernier.

Remember when all we needed was Ersberg to take over full time and we would be on our way to the Cup?

And you already brought up La-I-won-my-first-8-starts-and-then-my-girlfriend-got-sick-and-then-I-was-stuck-in-the-AHL-and-was-awesome-but-then-I-finally-got-a-shot-and-blew-Barbera.

But oh, no. Today, it's all, "Trade Quick. Bernier will save us and blah blah blah."

I guess everyone anointing Bernier as the savior didn't listen to the Monarchs playoff games, where he was outplayed by Neuwirth in their final series.

What are you trying to say here? Are you claiming the Kings scored only one even strength goal in the entire playoff series against the Canucks or are you claiming that a team cannot win a playoff game by only scoring one even strength goal?

The reality is that the Kings scored 18 total goals in the 6 games against the Canucks. 10 of the 18 goals were scored on the Power Play. Game 2 saw the Kings win 3-2 in OT while only scoring 1 even strength goal.

So, again, I ask, what are you trying to say?

Head-standing? How about average? Would you say Quick's play in goal was even average for a playoff goaltender? How was Quick's play over the final two months of the season?

Is there anyway a poster can criticize Quick's play without being labeled as part of the pro-Bernier crowd? Personally, I don't give a **** who plays in goal for the Kings. I'm much more concerned about how they play in goal for the Kings.

To some around here, the answer is a resounding "no".

For the record, I am pro-Bernier, but that does not mean I am anti-Quick too. I am of the belief that Bernier will ultimately be the better goaltender, but I in no way feel that he should just be given the job or that Quick should be traded. Two fairly priced, good goaltenders is always better than one.

Those same people also jump to the conclusion that if one person has an opinion about one detail on a topic, they automatically fall into the other 75% of posters who believe something else.

They use it for self-justification that their beliefs are the only one's that can be right and that everyone else has to be wrong.
