I can not comment on other professional sports. But as a fan if I could understand the needs of an NHL hockey player beyond just money, it might give me a better perspective of how todays NHL organization works. There is, as you state, a give and take situation between management and the player.

It would be great if there was a resource on the web for a fan to go read the Freudian make up of each and every NHL player at the start, mid and end of his career. As well, you could include personal/team accomplishments and to some extent maybe even include a little national pride in there.

But for sure, one thing that will screw everything up in every scenario/final analysis you can think of, and this is the one that matters deep down in every situation. Is my name on the Stanley Cup?

o'sullivan is 22/23 years old. its his first real contract where he has some real power at the negotiating table. if i were him i'd get as far away from the negotiating table as possible. you could just as easily say, dl or terry murray, or hell anze kopitar needs to get in there and make this deal happen. why is the onus on the player, whose expertise is on the ice not in the board room? wait five years and then you can start saying its time for him to "man up."

im not one of those fans who thinks that agents are the devil. they have a job to do, and some of them do a damn fine job at it. some suck, and are only in it for the money. but thats the case with most occupations. besides the fact that you were wrong about who his agent is, even if pattyo's agent was pat morris the list of players he represents doesn't really say much of anything about what kind of person or agent he is.

moreover, the relationship between an agent and an athlete has to be built on trust. a trust that goes in both directions. if o'sullivan were to undercut his agent not only would he probably lose that agent, but he would probably have a difficult time finding a replacement. that would be a severe handicap for him in the future.

finally, i am just as anxious (and bored) as anyone, but this panic that is setting in about o'sullivan is getting ridiculous. yes it is august, but it is still early in the off-season. we start getting into september without a contract then i might start to worry. but please, exercise the same kind of restraint you are calling for in the kc case.

I work very hard to be accurate when I write. In this case, my source for who O'Sullivan's agent is linked and quoted by Hammond. If I have it wrong, then help me appreciate why Rich Hammond would be calling the wrong guy. Here is the exact quote again:

As to the type of agent Morris is, I quoted Morris' bio from his agency's website. I don't pretend to know more than that. I drafted my own bio on my firm's website and I had everything to do with the content. No one could make me believe that Morris didn't have a similar role where he either wrote or approved what his bio states.

As to the rest of your comment, speaking solely for myself, I do not delegate key decisions in my life. I would be letting my agent speak on my behalf, but I would want to be included/consulted every step of the way. Maybe his is now; maybe he isn't. My take stems from the only quote directly from him. No more and no less. :stop:

Can't we just stick with discussing this coming season, what DL should have done, what he has done, why he hasn't done this or that and what will he do next?

Clicking a link to Rich Hammonds website and then cutting and pasting is considered "working very hard to be accurate"????? Assuming he read it as soon as you posted it, it took gescom less than an hour to discover your (and Hammonds I suppose) error.

So... based on one quote given THREE MONTHS ago you have created an opinion, convinced yourself it's appropriate and then defended yourself when called out.

Thanks Carla, your insight into Sully's non-signing was welcomed, I really hope DL is able to get something done.

I don't see how if the Agent is not returning phone calls.:(
