Takashi Miike to Do As God Says for Toho - Dread Central

Takashi Miike is a staple name in the world of cutting edge lunacy in cinema. The man has delivered the goods time and time again, and now he's heading into Battle Royale territory for an adaptation of As God Says (Kamisama no lu Tori) for Toho.

According to Variety, Miike has been tapped to helm the film based on a popular comic about teenagers forced to play a deadly game by unknown forces. The flick will be produced by Toho, with principal photography set to start in June and the Japan release, also by Toho, scheduled for the fall of 2014.

Written by Muneyuki Kanshiro and drawn by Akeji Fujimura, As God Says was serialized in Kodansha Comic Magazine from March 2011 to November 2012 and has sold 1.5 million copies in paperback editions.

Give Thanks for These First Details, Stills, and Trailer for Yoshihiro Nishimura's Zombie TV - Dread Central

    From the Press Relesae:
ZOMBIE TV is the splatter-ific new zom-com-omnibus from the fertile and twisted mind of acclaimed cult filmmaker and special effects makeup genius Yoshihiro Nishimura (TOKYO GORE POLICE, HELLDRIVER, THE ABCs of DEATH).

A Monty Python-esque collection of shorts, animation, sketch comedy, instructional videos, and more, ZOMBIE TV showcases the natural evolution of zombies in the 21st century, no longer a frightening menace, but rather an annoying neighbor you realize you simply have to put up with. ZOMBIE TV answers such natural questions as: In a world full of the undead, wouldn’t some of the surviving humans want to join the majority and become zombies themselves? Would becoming a zombie solve the emotional and relationship problems we all have as living, breathing human beings? Do zombies have their own idols? Would zombies worship a zombie god? Who would win in a fight: a cannibal or a zombie? How did zombies evolve from walkers into runners? And the most burning question of all: How do zombies have sex?

Nishimura has created ZOMBIE TV with the assistance of a new pair of filmmakers he’s excited to introduce to the world: award-winning splatter short film director Naoya Tashiro and artist/animator Maelie Makuno. Bringing very different tastes and styles to their episodes, the trio have created a fun, fast-moving film that captures the feeling of flipping through late-night TV in a world gone mad. Structured to entertain without tiring out its audience, ZOMBIE TV provides food for thought—if that food were human guts and brains. Sure to delight zombie fans old and new, ZOMBIE TV offers a newfound appreciation for our walking dead friends.

24Framespersecond.net - New trailer for Takashi Miike’s MOLE

Synopsis: Reiji Kikukawa (Toma Ikuta), who has a strong sense of justice, graduated from the police academy with the lowest score ever. He becomes a police constable, but is fired by the Police Chief due to "disciplinary" issues. In actuality, the firing is part of a carefully orchestrated plan. Reiji is ordered to become a "mole," an undercover cop. His target is Shuho Todoroki, the boss of the Sukiyakai gang. The group is the largest crime group in the Kanto area. Masaya Hiura, who works as a young boss of a Sukiyakai affiliated gang, likes Reiji. While going through various hardships, Reiji works his way towards Todoroki.
Miike doing absurd humor again? Sweet.

    Ip Man 3 Coming Up

Martial arts superstar Donnie Yen is set to return as the iconic Ip Man. According to various reports coming out of Hong Kong, the third film about Bruce Lee's mentor is expected to begin shooting next year.

According to producer Raymond Wong Ip Man 3 was originally set to be filmed between June and September 2013, but various scheduling conflicts, including one with Yen, temporarily collapsed the project.

The producers of Ip Man 3 have already confirmed that the film will have a theatrical 3D release.
Well, the first two were pretty great, so I'm down for this.

Kino Lorber Signs Multi-Year Distribution Deal With Palisades Tartan

Kino Lorber announced today it has signed a multi-year agreement with Palisades Tartan to serve as the exclusive home entertainment distributor in the US and Canada (as available). The distribution deal includes packaged media (Blu-ray/DVD), digital rights, educational sales and repertory theatrical releasing.

Kino Lorber will reintroduce this much sought after 90 title collection, and reissue many of the films on Blu-ray under the Palisades Tartan label. Kino Lorber also plans new digital releases since many of the titles have not been widely available on key and new digital platforms. In keeping with its theatrical mission, the company will also curate selected films for repertory theatrical re-release.
Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinteresting. God, I hope that means we're going to see some Shinya Tsukamoto stuff on Blu-ray soon!
