You just know Gary Oldman WON'T win because everyone is rooting for him. The fact that this is his first nomination while Hillary Swank has two wins for playing the same role is laughable.
I already know execs at Paramount are surprised with the love Hugo is getting. The Academy snubs Scorsese for years only to recognize him for lesser work.
This is probably the most boring year ever as far as overall films go.
George Clooney and Brad Pitt are just too George Clooney and Brad Pitt for me to see them as anything but George Clooney and Brad Pitt in their movies. It's the Tom Cruise effect. Too big for their own good.
Gary Oldman better effin' win!
Well, Hugo is supposed to be a thesis statement on film preservation and all that. If anything fits in with the mission statement of the Oscars, there's yer boy. It's a damning criticism of the Academy that Gary Oldman has never won for his more 'vibrant' portrayals and the one real shot that he has, his character is a buttoned down 'quiet' man. Watch him in the Professional/True Romance/Sid & Nancy for performances that, in lesser hands, would have been ridiculous. But the Academy does not recognize great, only lowest common denominator mediocre. I still have not forgiven them for Mickey Roarke not winning for the Wrestler. Sean Penn...really?
I saw The Artist last night and loved it. Charming as hell, and surprisingly moving.
Dujardin's fantastic.
I definitely think The Artist deserves awards for Best Picture and Best Actor in a Leading Role. Fantastic cinematic experience.

well that's about the most perfect/bland choice. They should lock him in for the next 10 years. Nice guy(seemingly) and completely inoffensive. Yup, the perfect choice.
