Bloody Disgusting Horror - "The Raid" Movie Info, Review, Headlines, Gallery
Brilliantly, The Raid logically works its way through fight choreography that begins with automatic weapons and ends with hand to hand combat (once all the ammo and weapons are gone; and imagine that anything can be used as a weapon). Evans shows that he’s a master of action filmmaking as nearly every sequence is wholly visible – no shaky camera, tight shots or editing – and lets the viewer actually see what the hell is going on. Even more impressive were the on screen SFX work which range from multiple stabbings (chest, legs, eyes, etc.) to poles being jammed into people’s necks and faces being planted onto broken pieces of wood. The Raid is by no means a horror movie, but it plays out like the most epic zombie movie ever created – it’s easily one of the most violent and bloody films in history, yes, EVER. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the best action movies ever assembled.
The Raid does everything right, and is so incredibly self-aware in its awesomeness that I envision the filmmakers jacking off to their own movie (I would too). If you’re expecting a kick to the head, instead you should probably expect 42 kicks to the teeth, a roundhouse, 362 punches to the ribs and then two broken legs. The Raid is ultra-cinema, the highest octane of energy you’ll ever see on the big screen. It’s a rush that’s only side effect is withdrawal – and the only fix is to see it again.

Frédéric Jardin‘s french film Sleepless Night might be one of the best and tightest written action thrillers I’ve seen in the past few years. The film is kind of like Die Hard meets 24 by way of Taken, but never falling into many of the genre cliches set-up by those films.

I really wanted to like this one more than I did. I’m a fan of just about every actor in the piece and I think Kate Mara is hot like fire. I like blood and gore which this film is swimming in and I love me a good siege movie. All these things combined should have made for an incredibly fun two hours in front of the television, but they don’t combine well, instead they congeal and flop half formed onto the ground. When I sat down to write this I was planning on being much less harsh than this because I thought “Oh, well. It was entertaining and didn’t **** the bed horribly,” but I’m tired of making excuses for movies like this. Movies that have all the right ingredients to make Fettuccine Alfredo but have a chef that only knows how to make Top Ramen. 90% of the things that don’t work in this movie don’t work because of the direction and the script and there’s no excuses for that.

Like Marc Forster’s previous work, “Machine Gun Preacher” is utterly devoid of subtlety or visual imagination. Those who complained about his incoherent action scenes of “Quantum Of Solace” will get a number of shootouts with no rhythm or sense of geography. Those that found his little-seen drama “Stay” awash in murky darkness will recognize the inky incomprehensibility of this picture’s night time scenes. To those who found Forster’s understanding of children and their imaginations utterly alien in “Finding Neverland” will again see Forster’s bewilderment at how they behave. Forster is a rich man’s Joel Schumacher, and in kowtowing to the needs of a Gerard Butler Vanity Project, he’s shown us exactly how to sell out in Hollywood, by avoiding the need for an artist to have a compelling individual voice. “Machine Gun Preacher” ends up being not a Gerard Butler Showcase, nor a Marc Forster Joint, or even a tribute to the real-life Sam Childers (here seen weirdly glorifying vigilante justice in a post-credits stinger). It’s merely “Rambo” done wrong. [D]

another example of what is wrong wth Hollywood. Actor/actress______ starts to garner some buzz, studios all go we need a _______-type for this role(not really but whatever puts asses in the seats), and _______, who has never seen this kind of attention and knows that it is fleeting, signs every high quote they put in front of them, which I don't think anyone can fault them for, strike while the iron is hawt and all that(hmmmmsounds strangely familiar to another situation...whatever). Sad result, an actor/actress that people like, becomes overexposed and eventually people lose interest. See Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, that dude from Avatar for some of the more recent examples. Renner will be just another box office burn out in no time.
