Fantastic Fest Review: ‘Elite Squad 2’ A Sprawling, Exciting Look At The Depths Of Corruption > The Playlist

If ultimately your reaction to “The Enemy Within” is “wow, Brazil is a really dangerous, ****ed-up place,” you probably wouldn’t be wrong, since Padilha gives his story a sense of authenticity that disappointingly few other political thrillers share. But like Scorsese does in “Casino,” Padilha creates an oddly universal sort of emotional identification with most of his main characters, so that when they go to the extremes of human behavior we understand them completely, and we’re surprisingly gratified by their actions, even when they’re only questionably appropriate. As a whole, “Elite Squad: The Enemy Within” works because it devotes as much attention to the microcosm of the characters personalities as the macro of their environment and circumstances, creating a tense, engaging opus that both shines a light on a sophisticated world, and shows how the individuals within it survive. Take note! I am going to shove this ****ing movie down your throats when it gets near it's release date out here!

If You Didn't Like The Title LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD, Check Out The Title For DIE HARD 5!!
Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

An AICN reader called Battletide sent in this quick note, presented below in its entirety...

I was just listening to my fave sports show, The Jim Rome Show, and b/c of Rome's love for all things John McClane, Tom Rothman of FOX Entertainment came on his show to announce the title and set-up for Die Hard 5. It will be titled A Good Day To Die Hard and it will involve John heading to Russia to sweet talk some cops into letting his apparently-wayward son out of jail for something he did....but when he gets there, as you can imagine....things surrounding his son's arrest are not as they appear and world-threatening terrorist hijinks ensue. The role for John McClane, Jr. will be highly coveted in the next couple of months. It goes before cameras in January, and they are going to release it on February 14th just in time to buy the lady some roses and chocolate and then take her to see some terrorists get their asses handed to them McClane style!!!!

Johnny Knoxville & Forest Whitaker Round Out Cast Of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ‘The Last Stand’ > The Playlist

Johnny Knoxville, Forest Whitaker and the always awesome Harry Dean Stanton are rounding out the cast on the film, though their roles haven’t been specified. Penned by first-time writer Andrew Knauer and veteran Jeffrey Nachmanoff—and recently rewritten by George Nolfi—the story follows a disgraced LAPD cop in a new job in a small town, who is trying to stop a drug cartel leader, Cortez (Eduardo Noriega), who has just busted out of prison and is trying to make it across the border with $400 million bucks. Jaimie Alexander, Zach Gilford and Rodrigo Santoro are the team of cops on the small town force working with Ahnuld, and together they will team up against Peter Stormare who works for Cortez.
This is looking pretty good on paper.

I dunno. Knoxville was in the Walking Tall 'reboot' and Forrest Whittaker ain't known to be picky either. Then again maybe politics have improved Ahnolds acting abilities.

Well, I'm much more interested in it being Kim Ji-woon's (I Saw The Devil, A Tale Of Two Sisters) American debut. And crossing my fingers.

Keanu Reeves’ Directorial Debut ‘Man Of Tai Chi’ Will Start Shooting At The End Of The Year

The wheels having been turning for the past little while for Keanu Reeves’ first foray behind the camera for a little while now. Over the summer, financing was coming together and Screen Daily confirms that Village Roadshow, China Film and Wanda Group will be signing the cheques for the modestly budgeted $25 million “Man Of Tai Chi.”

Reeves will also star in the pic along with Tiger Hu Chen, one of the stuntmen on “The Matrix” films, in the English and Mandarin language movie that Reeves has been promising will kick exactly eighteen kinds of ass. “There’s 18 fights. We’ve timed it out. It’s about 40 minutes of fighting,” he told MTV earlier in the year. “I want to make a good, solid kung fu movie. Good story, good plot — but let’s get some good kung fu going!”

Of course, what that actual story is appears still be somewhat of a mystery. But Reeves will have plenty of time to answer questions about his movie he starts doing the press rounds for “47 Ronin” which opens on November 21, 2012. It seems for fans of Reeves delivering big action spectaculars, they will have a lot to look forward to.
I read on an Asian site yesterday that Zhang Ziyi has been approached about being in this, as well.
