REVIEW: ‘Bourne Legacy’ Is A Slog Of A Sequel – Despite Renner Power - Movieline

The Bourne Legacy is a passable movie that has the peculiar misfortune of being part of a very successful, influential and distinctive franchise. Box office-wise, this is probably not going to be much of a hardship, but in terms of content and style it definitely suffers in comparison. The Bourne predecessors, particularly the two directed by Paul Greengrass, are by my count some of the most exhilarating action movies in recent cinematic history. The Bourne Legacy is not.

Anyone who shells out for a ticket expecting Citizen Kane is some kind of fool but if you’re in the market for about an hour and a half of untrammelled macho bull**** and a bunch of stuff blowing up, The Expendables 2 is for you.

The first trailer for Kim Jee-Woon‘s The Last Stand has gone online. Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as the old sheriff of a sleepy border town who’s called to action when a drug kingpin flees an FBI prisoner convoy, and tries to make his way to Mexico. It’s a good premise for nice little action-thriller, but Schwarzenegger seems totally miscast. He’s just not really meant for small movies because he’s a big persona. There’s nothing subdued about him. So when a huge guy with a thick Austrian accent is wandering around a small town like it’s no big deal, he seems horribly out of place. Maybe it will work better in context, and I really like the action on display from Kim Jee-Woon. It’s a nice break from the shaky-cam antics other directors may have brought to the picture.

because all sheriffs of sleepy little mexican border towns have Austrian accents. I love Knoxville, but is he playing a special needs person in this? I can't tell...

Looks like the ACTION movie is getting another go. I would love to see Walter Hill make a relevent movie at this stage of the game. I do wish they had kept Thomas Jane as the new partner though. At least I know I can sell this to Kingsqueen because her Sun & Stars is in it.
