Nice way to go out, blasting Motorhead/old school Nugent

Michael Rooker was incredible in that episode from start to finish. Too bad Merle made the rookie mistake of firing three times from the same position. Great plan though, especially the gratuitous part of how he shot the guys in the leg to make them zombie food instead of just going for the kill.
Daryl had quite a bit of aggression there at the end.

Really an enjoyable epi last night. Loved the zombie action and I thought Merle had the governor there - that was a nice touch. They have diverted from the book quite a bit and I would love for the prison crew to hit the road before the Gov and his boys get there just to see the look on the Gov's face. I am guessing Rick and crew hit the road and while the Gov's army hits the prison Rick and team hit Woodbury to get Andrea back. Both teams will hit empty places. But what do I know?

Didn't have a chance to look at this until this AM. Damn that looks really, really good. Strong cast as you noted jd - I love both those guys. And the Detroit backdrop is perfect for this kind of story. I have spent a look of time in that city over the years and the Detroit River must have many, many bodies buried in it!

Not to be excessively harsh on Walking Dead, but, despite the strong ending, it was not a good episode. Too much time spent meandering/padding, and they telegraphed what was going to happen taking some of the kick out of it. The reluctance to fill an episode by playing out multiple storylines is really what is hindering this show. No reason at all that they could not have used some of last nights runtime to show Tyrese and Andrea's plotlines. And the show wouldn't feel so flat if more stuff was happening in the course of a single episode. Oh well...I expect next weeks episode to provide just enough of a spark to make us all look forward to it for 9 months.

I agree. Some really great character moments in the episode, but almost NOTHING to move the plot forward. Again.

I really wish the would have done more to develop Michone's character, as well as Tyrese and his little group. I feel like they really missed the mark on what could have been some really great stories. IMO, both were introduced in great ways (Michone more than Tyrese), and they just plummeted immediately there after.
I was expecting a little more from this last episode, but it was a great ending. Looking forward to see how they end this season.

At some point you have to question Kirkman's involvement with the show. How much influence does he really have. If you read the comics you know that depth of character really isn't Kirkman's forte. Even still, characters like Tyrese and Michonne do fare better in the comic. There is no reason for this. Merle being removed from the equation weakens things even more. I mean, look at Herschell. In the comics he was certainly not the easy going aggreement sage that he has become. I swear, it's like thay have no idea what to do with these characters when they aren't killing them off and the only saving grace are some of the stronger performers(Darryl,Carole, and fodder like Lynerd Skynerd). It seems a shame that Milton is almost destined for an exit. He's a much better character at this point than the Governor simply due to Dallas Roberts performance. I could see a tremendous story where he becomes Gov Mark 2...but that won't happen because there really isn't much forward thinking on this show. That's the biggest complaint, a show that COULD BE...is just sooooooo average. And they will keep treading water and we will all still watch.

And the producers KNOW we will all still watch. That's why they keep watering down the episodes. They need to get the group back on the road and bring back some of that suspense from the first season.
