And this is why I am glad I will soon be living blocks away from here...

    TV Tuesdays | The Cinefamily

A bold statement, but it’s true: “The Gong Show” is one of the most monumental achievements in the history of broadcast television. No other single program we can think of even comes close to matching its level of joviality, moment-by-moment entertainment value — and stratospheric total madness. Like one giant conga line of inspired manic (and probably drunken) flapdoodle, “The Gong Show” appeared in a post-Watergate era when our country desperately needed a few laughs, and for almost five dizzying years, it supplied the American public with enough glorious vaudevillian-talent-show-on-acid idiocy to last several lifetimes. It’s a truly sad fact that “Gong Show” reruns are completely non-existent in our time, so we’re remedying it by bringing you a big fat slate of Cinefamily’s most favorite “Gong Show” acts, guest hosts, musical numbers and, perhaps best of all, moments of inspired lunacy from show host Chuck Barris. Then, it’s time for an ultra-rare 35mm screening of The Gong Show Movie: the head-shaking 1980 feature film swansong (co-written and partially directed by counterculture legend Robert Downey, Sr.) that takes a peek behind the stage door curtain, to reveal both “too hot for TV” uncensored show outtakes and Chuckie Baby’s groovy existential crisis! C’mon down for more sssssssssstuff!
The Gong Show Movie Dirs. Chuck Barris & Robert Downey, 1980, 35mm, 89 min.

Sadly It will not be in time for this. Damn it!!!!

In the Mouth of Madness is totally underrated. Prince of Darkness...overrated. The Thing, well that's just brilliance.

Edgar Wright Has Never Seen These Movies, Pair Them Up For Four Nights In Los Angeles | /Film

Edgar Wright‘s latest epic project has him partnering with Quentin Tarantino, Judd Apatow, Joss Whedon, Bill Hader, Guillermo Del Toro, Joe Dante, Greg Mottola, Harry Knowles, Rian Johnson and, probably, several of you.

Like all of us, Wright has a bunch of classic and cult films he’s never seen. Unlike all of us, he has the means to see them for the first time on the big screen and will do just that in December at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles during Films Edgar Has Never Seen. The director of Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World asked both his famous friends (some of which are listed above) and fans to send in their personal must see lists and, from those titles, Wright came up with one mega list from which he’ll pick a few movies to watch December 9-16.

After the jump check out the list and find out how to give Wright your input on what to screen.

The list first came from Wright’s blog, Edgar Wright Here, and was also featured on Ain’t It Cool News. He’s already settled on The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension to screen at midnight and, if Gone With the Wind gets picked (it should) it’ll be the only thing that screens that night. Other than that, Wright wants fans to pick their dream double features from this list. It goes from the films with the most votes (Ichi the Killer) to least (The Westerner.)

To give your own input, head over to Edgar Wright Here. Here’s the list.

Holy ****... Wright not having seen some of those makes me feel a whole lot better about my not having seen some things.

I will **** my pants if the New Beverly screens Possession. And maybe even finally buy tickets to one of these awesome shows they keep doing there.

L.A. Readers! Celebrate The Televised Work Of Harlan Ellison, With Harlan Ellison, At The Cinefamily On November 15th!
Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

I vehemently recommend that you get your ass to the Cinefamily for "The Glass Teat: Harlan Ellison on Television". The great science-fiction writer will be on hand to discuss his groundbreaking television work (e.g. "Demon with a Glass Hand" and "Soldier" for THE OUTER LIMITS; "The City on the Edge of Forever" for STAR TREK), and, most likely, fire off a stream of invective at every venal bastard who dared to compromise his scripts. Indeed, Ellison can be abrasive. But he's also enormously funny and irrefutably briliant. If you've never heard him speak, by all means go.

Tickets are a dirt-cheap $10 (free for members). The event will be moderated by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Josh Olson (A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE), and will conclude with a screening of some of Ellison's greatest episodes. For more on the evening (and to buy tickets), head over to the Cinfamily's website.
