My sister always loved Welcome to the Dollhouse and thought it was hilarious.
Happiness is probably my favorite dark comedy.
Well if Solondz 'comedies' about pedophelia and other 'funny' stuff can be lumped in here...
Three Images From Bobcat Goldthwait’s “Angry, Bloody” God Bless America Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors
Quote:
I’m a big fan of Bobcat Goldthwait, film director. I don’t know how well I remember his stand up, and I think he was selling himself short in a lot of his acting roles, but in recent years, he’s come out swinging with some of the best, most engaging and smartest films I’ve had the pleasure to force on my friends.
The best way to describe his films, I think, would be as moral fables. Sometimes aggressive, always committed, consistently funny moral fables. His latest, God Bless America, seems to be more of the same.
The film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and here’s how their program describes it:
It’s a Bonnie and Clyde for the 21st Century as a 45 year old man and a teenage girl go on a killing spree in comedian Bobcat Goldthwait’s angry and bloody black comedy.
The story apparently starts when “the man” sees an episode of something like My Super Sweet 16 and decides to kill the girl who starred in it. After tracking her down and committing that murder, he’s confronted by one of her peers who asks if he was responsible for the killing… but instead of reprimanding him or screaming for police, she joins him, and they team up to kill and kill again.
lol.
Happiness was rough. i don't ever think i found the humor... similar to how i was left after that Observe and Report flick - neither made me feel too good.
whereas i can think back fondly and recommend ones like Harold and Maude and Ravenous to people.
Ravenous is a brilliantly underrated flick!!!!
