David Cronenberg on How the $20 Million 'Dangerous Method' Got Made - The Hollywood Reporter

    7. TED TURNER TRIED TO BURY 'CRASH'
In the case of Crash, which equates sex with violent car crashes, Ted Turner was so upset, he did everything to kill the movie’s release. The mogul, who owned the picture’s distributor, New Line, “wanted to destroy it,” Cronenberg says. “He and Jane [Fonda, his then-wife] had apparently screened the film and were appalled. But they wouldn’t tell me at New Line. I was planning to come down to do publicity and they said, ‘Don’t get on the plane. We’re going to delay the release.’ I said, ‘Are you kidding me?’ ” Turner would relent.

    8. CRONENBERG LOATHES HOLLYWOOD
The Toronto-based filmmaker turned down films such as Flashdance, Top Gun and Interview With a Vampire and worked through 12 drafts of Total Recall, adapted from the Phillip K. Dick short story, We Can Remember It For You Wholesale before being told by producer Dino De Laurentiis, "'You know what you've done? You've done the Dick version. We wanted to do Raiders of the Lost Ark Go to Mars.'"
    GREAT read, Cronenberg fans!

    REVIEW: “A Dangerous Method” (**1/2)

If this is a circuitous way of saying the film is artful but also a little airless, distinguished but also a little dull, that’s because such blunt “go bigger” lines of criticism skate close to chiding a director for not making films he might not have in his system anymore: how long can one go on fighting tonal shifts in an artist’s ever-growing oeuvre?

A Dangerous Methods does seem to be getting some initial mixed reviews.

Speaking of Cronenberg films that having gotten such reviews, I just got a copy of this, which is one of the few Cronenberg movies that I haven't watched.

    Yah!

I remember reading somewhere that Cronie wanted to make sure that Song looked like a dude in drag in order to remove any ambiguity to whether or not Jeremy Iron's character knew that he was sleeping with a dude or not. Dunno, I figured unless he was constantly doped up on opium, it would become pretty obvious right away. Hahaha! In the play, that guy is being questioned to whether or not he knew if he was sleeping with a dude, and he was like, no, but I started to wonder why she always wanted to lie on her stomach.

Anyways, I still haven't watch Fast Company (Has anybody seen that?) or Crash, well, because the whole idea of people getting off on car crashes creeps me out. However, I did read the novel, and if anything, some people have said that Crash is a boring movie with a lot of sex. Maybe.

Anyways, this is pretty good book on the man's work: David Cronenberg: Author or Filmmaker?

It touches on the fact that most of his later work seems to have been based on novels or plays and how literary influences have affected his work as a whole.

Man...I am sorry but despite the great cast 'Dangerous' just looks sooooooooooooooooooo dull. It just seems as if Cronenberg is trying to wear his intellect on his sleeve a little too much. Add Viggo 'not an actor...an ARTIST!!!' Mortensen and this just seems pretentious.
