The Cove sounds depressing, but then again, I am biased. ;-)

Hmm, more like The 9 Most Devastatingly Sad Documentaries of the past decade.

DocuWeeks Kicks Off in L.A. -- Will Give 24 Films an Oscar Boost | The Wrap Movies

For about two dozen documentary filmmakers, the road to Oscar just might begin in a small West Hollywood multiplex and a downtown New York arthouse.

The International Documentary Assn.'s DocuWeeks program, a three-week showcase designed specifically to meet the Academy's eligibility requirements, began on August 12 at the IFC Center in New York City, and kicked off on Friday at Laemmle's Sunset 5 theaters in West Hollywood.

The Norweigan Black Metal Doc, Until the Light Takes Us is streaming on Netflix now. It was alright, I give it 3.5/5

Caught "Senna" at the Landmark and I was blown away. Easily the best film I've seen this year. Fascinating story of an amazing character/athlete that I had zero prior knowledge or interest in before hearing about this film.

This is one of those rare documentaries that transcends the genre and is easily accessible to any and all lovers of great storytelling. This movie is filled with good guys, bad guys, evil conspirators, beautiful women, adventure, heart-pounding excitement and one helluva gorgeous score. A truly memorable experience.

This film will win the Oscar for Best Doc. Guaranteed.

And it is currently playing at the Laemmle Playhouse 7 in Pasadena. Not sure if it's playing anywhere else currently.

I wonder if I can swing out there on Wednesday...

If you can, you must. You won't regret it. This is the type of film that plays best projected onto a giant screen.
