‘The Way, Way Back’ Set Photo: Steve Carell VS. Sam Rockwell

Former black list script, Sam Rockwell...ok, I'm in.

The film itself – not to be confused with the Colin Farrell film The Way Back - follows a teenager summering at a New England community with his mother (Toni Collette). Over the course of this coming-of-age film, the young teenager befriends a water park manager (played by Sam Rockwell) who, based on the photo, must at some point be at odds with Steve Carrell (who plays the obnoxious boyfriend of Collete’s character).

Al Pacino to Star as Joe Paterno in Penn State Sex Scandal Pic | Collider

Good god isn't old Al...well, older than Paterno at this point? Do we really need this. It's like On Any Given Sunday meets Cruising.

By the way, if you haven't seen Cruising, you should. It's amazing that that movie got made and released. Really a testament to how times have changed as far as entertainment. I just think of all the picketing that would have gone on if that movie was released today.

It's like On Any Given Sunday meets Cruising?

    Rust and Bone

Studio Canal have released a brand new trailer and promotional stills for director Jacques Audiard (A Prophet) new film Rust and Bone (2012), starring Marion Cotillard, Matthias Schoenaerts and Armand Verdure. Rust and Bone will open in cinemas across the United Kingdom on November 2.

Jacques Audiard, acclaimed director of A Prophet and The Beat That Skipped My Heart, returns with this powerful, tender romantic drama about two people from very different worlds seeking redemption in each other. Marion Cotillard (La môme) stars as Stephanie, a killer whale trainer who late one night meets Alain (Matthias Schoenaerts, Bullhead) in a fracas at the nightclub where he works as a bouncer. Put in charge of his young son, Alain has come from Belgium to Antibes to live with his sister and her husband as a family. Alain's bond with Stephanie grows deeper after she suffers a horrible accident, bringing the two together once more.

Trailer and more images at the link. I still haven't seen A Prophet, but I've heard nothing but good things about it. And Marion Cotillard...

Venice Review: 'Passion' Has Flashes Of Classic Brian De Palma, But Often Feels Lackluster | The Playlist

Whatever your opinion of De Palma’s oeuvre, there’s no denying he’s a fine craftsman of trashy thrillrides. But when his cinema really sings, such as in “Dressed to Kill," his giddy serial killer sex farce, or paranoid political thriller “Blow Out," his sense for image, composition, and movement is as fine as any living filmmaker. “Passion” has its moments: there’s a trademark De Palma split-screen, with the left-hand side showing a graceful ballet performance, while on the right a nerve-shredding dance of murder plays out. Later, there’s also a nifty ‘she’s behind you’ scare. But both have been used to better effect in “Sisters” and “Raising Cain." De Palma’s heart ultimately doesn’t feel fully in this film. What “Passion” is lacking is, ironically, some passion. [C+]

DreamWorks in Talks to Acquire THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS; David Heyman Will Produce | Collider

Here’s the synopsis for The Light Between Oceans:

After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Tom, whose records as a lighthouse keeper are meticulous and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel has taken the tiny baby to her breast. Against Tom’s judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them.

    M. L. Stedman’s mesmerizing, beautifully written novel seduces us into accommodating Isabel’s decision to keep this “gift from God.” And we are swept into a story about extraordinarily compelling characters seeking to find their North Star in a world where there is no right answer, where justice for one person is another’s tragic loss.

The Light Between Oceans is exquisite and unforgettable, a deeply moving novel.
    Sounds good. Anyone read this?
