Ok, I stand corrected. Personally, I see the Lannisters being staunch Republicans(not a judgement imo, just statement of what I perceive to be fact)...but you took insult where none was meant. Calling someone a Republican does not constitute an insult. If it makes you feel better I will correct.
So which family is the Democratic party represented by?

I'll let others argue the "rape" scene but I can only tell you that the books came across a LOT different...it was definitely consensual.

Also, I joked earlier that Ned Stark was in heaven laughing his ass off at Joffery's demise. Turns out it was true!

Let it go. This ain't a political thread, so stop trying to make it one. I suggest you both move on.

Let what go? We are having a conversation, if you're offended by that then I'm sorry. I'm very interested in hearing anyone's opinion and view on a book and how it compares to current world society including its political views. Guess you've never done such a thing??

But when they go as far off as some perceive they did the other night...it bears discussion. And I don't think it should be relegated to the books thread. Look, folks bring up changes to the Walking Dead over in the AMC thread and nobody complains. Pretending that one exists without the other is pointless, as long as those who have read the books are respectful to those that haven't, it creates conversation. Otherwise we are all just saying how we liked or hated the episode...and that'll get boring fast.
Don't misunderstand me, JD. I am not advocating a prohibition on comparisons to the book for events that have already been depicted on the show. I am simply saying that the HBO production exists independently of the books and that divergences from the Martin plot line have no impact on the positive experience of the series for those of us who don't read the books. For example, I was far more offended by Jaime and Cersei having a sexual encounter next to the body of their dead son than by the rape aspect. However, the fact that it began as an assault was completely consistent with the barbarism and brutality that permeates the interpersonal politics of this world's culture.

As long as comparisons don't overly foreshadow coming events or attempt to force a particular interpretation of the plot line, then have at it. The books are only restricted by the boundaries of one's imagination. The series has to address the constraints of budget, time, human performances and geography. The books and the show are not only different media but vastly different realms of experience.

Trust me, I'm not offended. I'm just trying to make sure your conversation doesn't stray from the current conversation regarding this weeks episode. If your conversation is regarding the book, them please move it to the thread that's dedicated to the book.

Seriously get down off that high horse of yours and chill out. Considering this started as a conversation centering around Jamie's hair, I think maybe you're the one that needs to view something else. Nobody is arguing or straying off topic, except for now thanks to you. If you have nothing to add about what we are conversing about then please stfu.

Fair enough...and yes, I wouldn't expect discussion of the differences to impact your experience negatively, it's simply another viewpoint. And thats a terrific point about them doing the nasty next to the dead body. See, I was disgusted immediately because they were brother and sister, I had already condemned the act. The dead body and rape/not rape were just bad heaped on bad.

...and I think that's the issue. When rape is looked at as not as bad as possibly offending the dead, I get a little twisted.

When someone says no (regardless of why) and the dude says "I don't care", it's pretty cut and dry to me. It was a poor decision anyway you look at it. That's the last I'll say about the rape scene. If you guys don't think it was, imagine it happening to a close female relative of yours and let me know if you'd be ok with how Jamie handled it. Would you say to her, "well, it was kind of ambiguous"? I doubt it.

Also, I don't care if someone talks about the differences in the books either as long as it doesn't give away any future plot lines. As I told jd off the air, I've had Ned Stark dying, the Red Wedding, the Purple Wedding, Sansa being married off to Tyrion, AND two more big things spoiled for me that will be coming up in the future. I didn't need another thing ruined.

Children...look, I corrected my statements and I should have KNOWN not to off handedly make a damned political throwaway reference. I wasn't trying to provoke, it was just an observation. Let's move on shall we? As Hodor would say...'Hodor?'
