I believe they've done quite a good job of bringing the story to TV.

Like I said in the other thread: The rape scene last week was one of the few screw-ups. According to the actors, authors and show runners that was NOT the intention of the scene. Besides that is doesn't fit the character (Jaime) at all. Even this week's episode showed there really was no intent of rape. The scene basically was poorly edited....

Other than that I've had very few complaints about how it was been translated to TV...

Completely agree with the portion you linked. It creates a terrible confusion and lack of cohesion for Jamie. I watched last night (and loved the episode by the way) and couldn't help but feel that Jamie is a tale of two characters now. One would hate the other, and that doesn't jive with me.

He's like this altruistic, wanting to make a difference, loyal brother, concerned lover, honorable guy who does what he says he will...but just happens to be ok with raping his sister. The stench is going to take some time to wear off.

I suppose that people could have that reaction but from my POV they scene was massively screwed up (either from the books or even what the producers intended) I don't see the Jaime character that way at all. In fact, he was back to his old self in last night's episode. So I guess the experience it a bit different depending on whether you know more about the series being a book reader...

If the show had at least dealt with that scene in any way, I might feel a little bit better that there was some purpose for it, but there was literally NO aftermath. Cersei should be destroyed that Jaime raped her, but for some reason everyone's acting like it never even happened which really just pisses me off more.

Why show it if it's not even going to affect anything?

The reason why no one is acting like anything happened is because NOTHING happened. Again, the rape scene was botched and was not the intention so any "aftermath" is not going to exist. The "creepy" part was supposed to be the fact they screwed right in front of their dead son's body....but that seems to have gotten lost due to the mistake in carrying out the scene properly.

Except the showrunners and the director admitted that it was rape, so now it's not just a ****-up in storytelling on their part. He DID rape her so yes, something DID happen.

The focus SHOULD have been on how creepy it was for them to bone next to Joffrey's dead body. It was disturbing, gross and (sort of) funny in the books. That was supposed to be the point of the scene, but they instead made the focus totally different, gave the scene an entirely new meaning, and are now pretending it didn't happen.

Ok...nobody is noting the first marker in the 'why you should be upset about that scene' trilogy. THEY ARE BROTHER AND SISTER. If you have a sibling...think about it, go ahead, I'll wait...

So, yeah. The rest is all icing really. If you believe in the concept of afterlife, etc...they already booked their passage with that first offense. Not to diminish anything that followed, but I think the fact is that Jamie's Kingslayer nickname is downright glorious compared to sisterF_ _ _ _R. Sooooo if that scene had gone another way, or not happened, your distaste should have been established by that overriding fact. The problem like I said all last week is that the writers and Coster Waldau's performance have given Jamie respect that he does not deserve if they had followed the path of the source material. In the books he is snide and unpleasant, UNTIL he starts to go through his trials(the hand/Brienne/his rebuff by Cersei). In a perfect world the scene where he gifts Brienne should have been the first time you say to yourself...'waitaminnit!!!! What's this???' The man's first appearance(basically) was rough riding his SISTER and tossing a small boy from a window. Not a nice man.
