Melisandre of Asshai (The Lady who's Red) is more like a spiritual adviser. His wife is incredibly mundane.
More fantasy elements creep in as the story progresses. Dragons, walking dead, magic fire, resurrections.

Have we all just accepted how casually violent this world is? 3 pages in and NOBODY has mentioned THEY KILLED BABIES last night. Barely off camera. That was pretty epic for a tv show. BABIES!!!!!! You saw everything BUT the knife drawing across the throat. AWESOME!!!!!

I almost crapped myself laughing at that. Is that a serious site or an Onion spinoff?

Just wanted to chime in and say that while I missed the first-run 1st season, I powered my ass thru all 10 episodes on HBO's marathon yesterday...

.. only to fall asleep as soon as Tyrion assumed his Hand duties. Need to catch up after the game tonight, and consider picking up the books as well.

Rewatched...Tyrions face when he finds out Arya is missing, priceless. Someone please put up one of those fancy moving jpegs. Also, knowing what I know from reading the books, it seems a shame that some of the most well cast parts are for characters, like Ned Stark, who are not going to be around for too long.
