I feel sorry for Theon....... but then I stop and think about wut he done and then I just feel sorry for ME that I have to watch a character that I don't really give a **** about BRUTALLY tortured by a character that I don't even know.

    So... **** that noise.

    I feel sorry for Brienne.

But yea, the dragon scene kicked ass. As did the Joffrey/Tywin head to head.

Yeah, good point about Tywin/Joff...Charles Dance does so much acting in that scene just with his eyes. Climbing the stairs to claim advantage was terrific and just shows how crafty the old Lion is. Doc...what is it going to take for you to have some compassion??? C'mon man...his twig and berries are in peril(we haven't had a confirmation). NOBODY deserves that.

And yeah. I keep waiting for the dragons to let me down. So used to cgi being terrible. But they have been so very clever about restraining the use. And the impact they have in such small doses is terrific. Going to get harder, but man...I have so much faith in this team. Thought that losing Alan Taylor(making the new Thor movie), who directed a lot of the great episodes, was going to be a problem. But this season has been the tightest of the 3 so far. Just well done all around.

    Well here my whole thing...

I'm assuming that there is some incredibly important pay off to all the Theon stuff or they wouldn't be "wasting" so much time on him....

but until I know who the torturer is and why he's torturing him and what's going on with the rest of the Greyjoys etc etc etc..... every scene with Theon is just a really really unpleasant diversion from a show I really enjoy watching.

So... I don't like cringing and feeling gross for three minutes in the middle of one of my favorite shows. I'll trust that there's a reason for the mystery but it doesn't make me sympathetic to any of the characters involved.

Absolutely. It was handled in the books much better. But if they carried it out off page like in the books, Theon would literally be gone till season 5. So, while I applaud the decision(for tv there was no other choice) it really is unpleasant and yes, a full tires screeching break from the show. One review I read, think it was Seppinwall, said that he no longer wanted to see 'The Passion of the Theon'. And they really upped the ante last night. Just unpleasant.

Oh dear god please tell me we don't have to sit through three more seasons of Theon being strung up.

As far as the story goes, it's progressing. A lot of the time it's setting up dominoes in a bunch of places and each week we get to see them fall somewhere. This week it was Jamie/Brienne again (whose arcs tend to take much less set up in this part of the story) while the Wildlings, Danny, and the Lannisters continue to work their patterns.

You know who I feel sorry for? Tyrion. We're getting to pretty much see what life's been like at Casterly Rock his entire life and it sucks. Here's this awesome guy trying to do good, honorable things for his family and he keeps getting fool's gold. His whore's pissed at him for getting married and his bride doesn't wanna look at him no matter how well he's treated her in the past. His dad disses him at every turn. His sister hates him and the brother that likes him is out there somewhere. He does have Bronn, but that's about it.

As for Theon... eh. I think we could come back to him every few episodes and still be okay. As JD mentioned, he's gone for about a book and a half, so maybe just occasionally reminding us he's been captured and being tortured would be enough. This weekly thing makes me feel like maybe they're rushing to something we never had in the books.

And Robb. I never had the same problem that other people seem to have with his wife on the show compared to in the books. I know there are some significant changes, but you never her really meet much of her on the page. And in this TV world, at least you get some understanding as to why Robb would ignore his oath. It makes it a lot more understandable, even if the character is written and acts like a log.

And oh, hey! THERE'S the gratuitous nudity! I had almost completely forgotten all about that! Church girls, man....

oh, I have no trouble w/ the Queen in the North...matter of fact they have made a throwaway character interesting. I do have trouble feeling sorry for Tyrion. His reluctance to part with all the perks of being a Lannister outweigh his burial under their constant crap. Anyone else would have bailed for a (sorry) smaller happier life. He hides behind his handicap as an excuse to cling to a family that despises him, solely for the luxuries afforded.

So the ******* who keeps acting like an entitled dick the entire show happens to come across a nutjob who hurts him and that gets him to be "your poor Theon?" Okay. He had one slight moment of introspection, barely. But if he somehow escaped, he'd still be a jackass with no spine.

Meanwhile, with Tyrion, it isn't about being poor. The money is the money and he knows he has it so he uses it. But more than that, he knows what he's capable of and that people keep ****ting on him. He can be someone great. He can make a difference. And moreover, he has a right. He SHOULD be the heir to Casterly Rock. He made an excellent Hand. He's a strategist and capable of being a politician. But any time he's had any standing, he's done the job and been pushed aside in the end by someone who takes the credit. He's said it to Vaerys: he's good at the game and he likes it. So why should he run? Why go to Pentos or Volantis and become some merchant?

As for his handicap, I think the only time he ever refers to it, when not joking about it, is when he talks to Jon Snow in season 1. And he explains that it's best to accept who he is and get on with life rather than piss and moan about it. He struggle is for respect. And of all the characters in the show, he gets less of it from other characters than practically anyone else in the series.

Bah! You like that turd Theon but dislike Tyrion! C'mon!

As I've mentioned before I follow along with the TV show (here and online) but I don't have HBO so I can't watch until the BR set comes out...I'm VERY curious to see where they end this season relative to the books (of which I'm about done with book 3). I'm also curious about this Queen of the North thing...I've never heard of it.

I got the S1 and S2 DVDs and there were great to watch....S3 should be just as good but I'm a tad concerned on the deviations from the books....

I'm pretty sure Tyrion did try to bail for a smaller happier life, then his father had Tyrion's wife gang-raped.

I never picked up on THAT happening to Theon in the book, but lots of other people did, and Martin taking a break from not writing the sixth book to write this episode means that it definitely happened. It seems like a minor thing to focus on, but I can't really find anything else in the episode that would make him choose writing that one over any other.

I felt so bad for Theon, because now he is missing a few important parts. Not as important as the part Rodrick Cassel lost, but hey, at least Theon won his psychotic father's love and his a-hole sister's respect.

I don't know if Talisa really represents a significant departure from the books. The only difference right now is that Talisa is with Robb while Jeyne had to stay home at this point. And the elimination of the Spicers, which is more of an issue.

Massive credit to Rose Leslie, for turning Ygritte from "chick Jon gets with" in the books into a character I care about and am interested in.

The bear pit scene was just fantastic, especially for television. They made it look like the bear was actually smacking Brienne around and everything looked completely real. Dany's dragons also looked great.
