I take it you've done this before. Well when you go to the books a big observation you'll probably have heard before. Just like the movies, the first ones really are kids books and they are written for a maturing audience as they go through the sequence. (don't give up on the first book is all I'm saying)
I listen to the audiobooks mostly, but I start from Prisoner because the first two are pretty dull.
yeah, but there are details in there that get revisited later.
My biggest problem is with my kid(s), they won't have the benefit of waiting for the books and growing along with them as they are written. Seeing them sitting on a shelf and reading them at the wrong time is going to be a problem. Not that I'll stop them, but it would have been easier if they grew up with them.
The decision to read the books after wasn't a conscious one. I didn't think I was the audience for the books when they came out(and I wasn't) and really they hadn't grabbed my attention till after I saw the first few flicks. Normally I tend to read books before the eventual flicks. Luckily it seems that the Potter franchise is the rare bird that satisfies both on the page and on the screen.
