Ok, here goes, some of it will be a repeat of what others have already said, but I still need to get it off my chest.

Initially, I wanted to cut off Kloves’ balls, and I still do, but I do now think that some of the blame has to be shared by Yates and the editors. There’s obviously some stuff that didn’t survive the cutting room, which is fine and is always the case, but if you’re going to cut something out, make sure you clean up the rest of the movie so that the edit is properly carried throughout. A case in point, if you’re not going to have the Carrows in the movie at all (other than standing behind Snape, presumably, when he’s giving that BS of a speech), then cut out Neville talking about them when they’re walking through the tunnel to Hogwarts.

I only saw the movie once, and I’ll re-watch it, so some of these things are subject to a disclaimer, that I haven’t really studied this, but am basing my comments on a single viewing.

My biggest gripe is the botched final battle. I would have forgiven most, if not all of the other BS if this was done right. I can live with not having it in the Great Hall, although, having the first ray of the sun come up right at the climax and light up the sky (and correspondingly the enchanted ceiling) is such an iconic moment, that omitting it is just silly. Even with having it in the courtyard, you could still have the sunrise. (As an aside, ok, so you’re not going to have the Snape death scene at the Shrieking Shack, no biggie… but why?) However, cutting out the entire Harry and Voldy pacing in the circle with everyone watching after Harry told them “Nobody help!”, wands at the ready position, and Harry telling him off, telling him how full of BS he was, and calling him Tom Riddle to his face – that is unforgivable. Instead we get what? The silly wand beams connecting with Harry and Voldy making strained faces, as we already saw them do a number of times before? How ****ing uninspiring. How ****ing Hollywood. And how ****ing not even knowing what your audience is. The biggest cheers (other than Nagini killing) came after the verbal parts, with heroes telling off the bad guys. Well, Bella’s killing too, but that was immediately preceded by one of the more iconic one-liners from the book. Here you have the most cathartic of these “telling off” moments in the book, and you dispose of it completely? Utter bull**** and unforgivable.

All other gripes pale in comparison to this one, but I’ll list some off that I remember off the top of my head.

I can live with Voldemort disintegrating. Kinda stupid, but ok, given how he’s barely holding together with all the horcruxes destroyed, I’d allow this Hollywood bit of nonsense. However, Bella disintegrating is ridiculous. Not necessary, and goes against some of the most basic fundamentals of the HP world rule book.

Using Neville for comic relief was unnecessary and stupid.

“Snape’s speech”. Ugh. Having the Ravenclaw Tower scene would have been so much cooler. Another bit of cheer-inducing “telling off” glory fallen by the wayside.

After the movie, I asked my friend who read all the books except for the last one, because he wanted to watch the movie first – so, do you know which one of the twins died? Answer: no! which one? And with even not showing Fred’s death, it would still be pretty easy to show by having George’s ear messed up. But no, both the twin corpse and the grieving twin had their ears in identical good shape. Hacks.

A bunch of things in the movie were nonsensical or barely made sense because of the hack job Kloves did in the previous movies. Case in point, no set up whatsoever for the Hufflepuff Cup (fine don’t show ****ing Hepzibah, but at least have Dumbledore give Harry the Horcrux check list). Yet somehow, of hundreds of items in that vault, Harry is able to pick it out. (And please understand, that this and many others are not “book purist” complaints. I understand that things need to be cut and modified. But this is a perfect example of how with bad screenwriting and bad editing you have these WTF moments for people who have NOT read the books).

Related to this, the fact why Harry thinks the fifth horcrux should be something of Ravenclaw’s is not explained. Particularly, not making any reference to the fact that the cup was Hufflepuff’s made this especially glaring. Again, something that could have been easily fixed with a 30-second dialogue in HBP.

The Gray Lady bit was too long, and she was ****ing annoying. And Harry convinces her by telling her he wants to destroy the diadem? WTF would she want it to be destroyed?

With no Dumbledore back story, having the portrait of Ariana was silly too, and another WTF moment for people who have not read the books.

Related to the above, the whole Deathly Hallows storyline (not that the movie is named after them or anything) was botched. The movie gives no clue about Harry’s cloak being THE cloak, and the whole Dumbledore the Hallows hunter, the last temptation with Marvolo’s ring, and the stone being from the ring…. Ah, forget it. In retrospect, had JKR named the book “Harry Potter and the Elder Wand” as she contemplated, it would have worked better for the movie as it stands.

Harry saying goodbye to R&H before going to the forest. I guess you gotta have this, Hollywood and all (same thing was done in LOTR with Frodo meeting up with Aragorn before taking off). In the process they skipped the part that he told Neville about the snake. Good thing they still have him do it, but they couldn’t resist the silly 3-minute chase the snake around the castle and try to stab her with fangs horror. Having Neville purposely kill it right in front of Voldy would have been so much powerful. Especially it being that right after Neville does it, Harry stops playing dead and casts a protective spell to shield Neville. ****. Powerful stuff from the book, zero need to change it… yet idiot Kloves thinks he knows better than JKR. Dumb****.

I already mentioned the silliness about the giants, but no Grawp. Again, as a book purist I shouldn’t complain about the presence of the giants. But it’s bad movie making where you have no ****ing set up of the giants whatsoever, yet there they are?

Was that enough of a rant for ya? And that’s just off the top of my head.

Not to say that there weren’t parts that I immensely enjoyed. For example:

I thought they did an excellent job by showing how miserable that poor dragon was after decades of being chained up.

I loved that they (thankfully!) used the original John Williams theme when Harry arrives at Hogwarts, and the Hogwarts theme soon thereafter. It almost makes up for the fact that it hasn’t been used enough in the last few movies.

I liked very much that they actually showed the R&H at the Chamber of Secrets bit, which is not “shown” live in the book.

    The opening was nicely done.

The sequence from Harry entering the forest through Avada Kedavra through King’s Cross through Narcissa checking on Harry was done very well.

Snape’s memories part was beautifully done.

I want to give props to Helena Bonham Carter as well. Her scene has Hermoine impersonating Bellatrix was spot on.

What about during Harry's walk to Voldemort and talking to the "ghost" of Lupin about his son. In the first part, didn't they cut off Tonks from mentioning her pregnancy?

Well, they had her rub her belly, I guess they thought that was enough of a clue.

People who didn't read the book were also confused by the Narcissa/Harry sequence. I thought it was well-done and fairly true to the book, but for people who didn't read, Harry's slight blink was too subtle for some people to pick up. I also missed the Crucio in this scene.

it's been awhile since i read the last book.

Does neville really say he's "hot" for luna?

And does ron's mom really call bellatrix a "bitch" before killing her?

they all looked so incredibly old and mature 19 years later...err..

    i liked it.

it made a **** ton of money.

how long before a "prequel" movie about the parents?

You kinda get a sense he might, but then JKR later said that they did not end up together. So it's a movie invention, but it's not without ANY basis. Being that the primary target audience is teenage girls, it's just more Kloves pandering to it.

Neville actually married Hannah Abbot, according the JK Rowling. I didn't really mind the Luna/Neville thing but I definitely could have gone without it.

And the "Not my daughter, you bitch" part was awesome. I always imagined her shrieking it at Bellatrix but it was a little subdued in the movie. But at least they included it.

I only had a few issues with the movie, the Big D thing bothered me because I always liked how he was the only one to show some humanity and tell Harry that "he wasn't a waste of space." Having all the Slytherins be sent to the dungeon instead of just having them leave hogwarts bothered me because they were never mentioned again. So...did they all get blown up with the school or what? And the way they showed it, it looked as if ALL the students were fighting (with the exception of the Slytherins), instead of just the older students. The twins death scene was pathetic. It invoked no emotion out of me. The length of the movie surprised me, it was so short and felt so rushed. Everything was cut, and rushed and it really took all of the emotion and effect out of it....except the scene with Snape. I absolutely LOVED Alan in this role and it was almost exactly how I imagined it. I know they moved it from the shreaking shack to the boat house because its really hard to film in the shack and they wanted to get the effects right, I have a few other minor complaints but it doesn't REALLY matter I love these movies and I can't wait to have kids so I can force them to sit through them as well :P/

here is pretty much the summary of the movie.
