Bloody Disgusting Horror - "Grabbers" Movie Info, Review, Headlines, Gallery

Been looking fwd to this for a bit...Tremors meets Lovecraft, from what I have been told. The review is a little nitpicky. Still want to see it.

BD Horror News - Ivan Moody Hops Onto 'The Devil's Carnival' As "The Hobo Clown"!

    More coolness.

Darren Lynn Bousman's The Devil's Carnival just wrapped shooting last week. Fans on the official site's forums already know that the cast now consists of Repo! The Genetic Opera co-creator Terrance Zdunich, as well as Repo! stars Alexa Vega, Ogre (from Skinny Puppy) and Paul Sorvino. Emilie Autumn, Sean Patrick Flanery, Bill Moseley, Briana Evigan, and Marc Senter have all joined the cast as well.

A few days ago we brought you the update that Slipknot's "The Clown" had been brought in as a character called "The Tamer". Now, we can report that Five Finger Death Punch singer Ivan Moody plays "The Hobo Clown" in the film.

So What's The Big Genre Film Everyone's Talking About At Sundance This Year?
Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

This year, we have another movie that could be getting some buzz coming out of the festival.- V/H/S, reviewed by Quint here. Drew McWeeny at HitFix called it "one of the scariest movies I've seen in recent memory," and Drew knows his horror films. I can't wait to see it myself - I'm not too keen on "found footage" horror but everything, when done right, has the potential to be amazing and V/H/S follows a long tradition of horror anthologies with 21st century technology, and the result is... well, one of the moviegoers in last night's screening fainted during the film's first horrific sequence. He later got to meet the directors of the anthology - Ti West, David Bruckner, Adam Wingard, Glenn McQuaid, Joe Swanberg, and Radio Silence, who have to be ecstatic at the reaction from audiences so far. I hope V/H/S plays SXSW, because I'm really anxious to see it. I love hearing about films like this that come out of nowhere and deliver a solid asskicking. I especially love to be proven wrong about a type of movie like a found footage film, which I've been critical of in the past but I'm always open to new movie experiences and I'll happily eat crow if that's the case here.
Review: Terrifying anthology V/H/S creates new ghost stories for the video age - HitFix.com

I think the greatest thing a horror film can do to an audience is induce a feeling of dread. Anyone can scare you by having something pop out at the screen, but being able to take the audience, clue them in to what's coming, and then hold them to the fire, twisting and terrified… that's a skill set. That's real horror. This movie is loaded with unnerving imagery, simple and direct scares that play on a primal nightmare level, and ideas that blindside you with the way they twist expectation.

The film is also ordered in what I think is the exact right order. The first segment by David Bruckner sets the tone for just how crazy things might get, and the final segment by Radio Silence feels like the brakes are off and you're flying off the mountain into the void. It's crazy, and the audience tonight was screaming, jumping, viscerally reacting. This is the sort of film that's going to creep into the permanent nightmare vocabulary of the audience, and I think the cheap, ****ty VHS look of everything is a big part of why. We have learned over the past 20 years that if you're watching something on film, it's not real. But if you're watching something on video, especially low-grade unpolished video, that's "real." And the filmmakers play off of that idea with such glee that I almost feel like I got mugged by an entire gang. It is a film designed to shake you with abandon.

And there is no doubt… I am shaken. Well-played.

Distributors, start your engines. Someone's getting rich.
Oh hells bells I want to see this.

Dead, The (Blu-ray / DVD) | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

The film is a slow burn tale with such minimal dialogue that some may have pacing issues with it, but given the nightmarish quality of everything on display, there really isn't too much to complain about. My only real gripe is that I would have liked to have seen a much rowdier ending than what we got, but hey, that, too, is easily forgiven. As is, The Dead (along with The Horde) is one of the best damned zombie movies I've seen in a long time.

Sundance 2012: V/H/S Acquired by Magnolia Pictures | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

Despite reports of the film causing moviegoers to pass out - or perhaps because of them - Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American rights to the Bloody Disgusting Selects Sundance Midnight entry V/H/S for low seven figures. Plans are for a theatrical release in the fall and then VOD.
V/H/S (2012) | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

There is little bad that can be said about V/H/S, although some may not appreciate the order of the series of events. Some will no doubt feel that the wrap-around is a bit misplaced. Personally I was a bit shaken up by the order, as nothing happens the way you would expect it to. To me that's a very good thing, and it serves to keep viewers on their toes.

After the Q&A with the directors we learned it was changed up a time or two, still allowing for five shorts for the audience to enjoy. This possible “misalignment” does not take anything visually away from the film, but it could cause some slight confusion. Of special mention are the effects, which were outstanding and all practical, making it fell all the more real.

Some may say that shaky cam is used only by those that can’t afford to make a real film or those that have no imagination. In this case I will certainly have to disagree as this is by far one of the best of its kind in recent memory. See this as soon as you can, and treat yourself to a great piece of work from the gleefully twisted minds of the many talented directors utilized here. Then hope all of them send more fright fests like this our way soon.
    Hey Magnolia...sooner is bester!!!!!

BD Horror News - 'Thale' Tells The Tale Of A Tail In New Trailer!

A few weeks ago we brought you news of a Norwegian horror film is arriving later in 2012 that will tell the tale of the "huldra". Aleksander Nordaas' Thale follows a creepy chick with a cow's tale that appears normal from the front, but will appear "hollowed out" from behind (like a tree trunk).

Here's what Wiki says about the lore: "In some traditions, the huldra lures men into the forest to have sexual intercourse with her, rewarding those who satisfy her and often killing those who do not. The Norwegian huldra is a lot less bloodthirsty and may simply kidnap a man or lure him into the underworld. She sometimes steals human infants and replaces them with her own ugly huldrebarn (changeling huldre children). In some cases, the intercourse resulted in a child, being presented to the unknowing father. In some cases, she forces him to marry her."
