Spoon Wars Arrives as Latest Installment of Horribly Slow Murderer Series | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

    So brilliantly stoopid.

I was lucky enough to get the chance to see Primus last week, and I was pretty much convinced that their stage show was one of the strangest things I'd ever see. However, that theory was shot right to hell this evening when I was introduced to The Horribly Slow Murderer With the Extremely Inefficient Weapon series. Strange, but hilarious! And fans of the series will be thrilled to know the newest installment, Spoon Wars, is available now.

Darren Bousman Shares a Photo from the Set of The Barrens | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

And another photo from the set of a currently in production project got our attention tonight thanks to the magic of Twitter. Darren Lynn Bousman posted an image from The Barrens on his feed, and we have to say the star of the scene in question is quite a looker!

Bousman writes: Just another night on THE BARRENS! Earlier, as Week 1 of shooting wrapped up, he shared a bit about the harsh weather conditions he and the cast and crew were dealing with: Day 4 of shooting... Day 4 of straight rain... Who was the ******* that wrote an entire movie taking place outside? Which was followed by: Day 5 - torrential downpour! Come on Mother Nature. Please cut us a break... It's stopped being funny. Hopefully things are better as the film enters its second week of shooting.

Mia Kirshner ("The Vampire Diaries", 388 Arletta Avenue, The Black Dahlia), Erik Knudsen (Scream 4, Saw II), J Larose (Insidious, Saw III), Stephen Moyer ("True Blood," The Caller), Allie MacDonald (House at the End of the Street), Max Topplin (Dead Before Dawn 3D, "Fringe") and Peter DaCunha all co-star in the flick.

The legend of The Jersey Devil has been passed along for hundreds of years as the creature has risen from obscurity to take its place alongside the Loch Ness Monster, Big Foot, and the Chupacabra. The creature is deeply rooted in New Jersey culture; the local NHL team takes its name from the creature, and Bruce Springsteen put his own spin on the legend in "A Night with the Jersey Devil."

    Synopsis
Despite their reluctance, Richard Marlow (Moyer) takes his wife, Cynthia (Kirshner); their young son, Danny; and his teenage daughter, Sadie, to the Pine Barrens for a long weekend of camping and family bonding. As they arrive at the Wharton State Forest, a mutilated deer runs out into the road, nearly colliding with the Marlows' car. Later that evening another bloodied animal falls from a tree. Bad turns to worse when, in the middle of the night, a college boy camping nearby disappears into the woods. Nevertheless, Richard presses the family to hike farther into the forest to the spot where he used to camp with his father. He is feverish, and a past wound on his arm appears badly infected, but when it begins to rain, there is no turning back. Richard's sickness soon becomes debilitating; his headaches turn to hallucinations. What's worse, he believes there is something stalking them...something with yellow eyes, pointed horns, and the wings of a bat - THE JERSEY DEVIL. The disfigured bodies of the missing camper and another college boy soon turn up. The Marlows must fight for their lives as the horrifying answer reveals itself in a shocking and tragic conclusion.
Sweet!!!! Finally. The Pine Barrens are a fascinating story. I wonder if this is based on one of the many books written about the 'barrens.

Seth Green Lends Adam Green a Hand with FEARnet's Holliston | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

As further proof that you just can't have too much Green, actor Seth tweeted some news today about shooting a scene in director Adam's new series for FEARnet, "Holliston", in which the latter also stars with Joe Lynch, Dee Snider, Laura Ortiz, Corri English, and Oderus Urungus. Seth shared a photo of himself and Adam from the set and provided a great caption for it, too. Not to be outdone, Lynch also posted a photo of himself with the Greens on his Twitter feed.

"Holliston" is an outrageous and offbeat multi-camera, half-hour buddy comedy series starring directors Adam Green (Hatchet, Hatchet II, Frozen, Chillerama) and Joe Lynch (Knights of Badassdom, Chillerama, Wrong Turn 2). FEARnet recently gave the series a six-episode order, and it began production in September. "Holliston" is created, written, and directed by Green, with ArieScope Pictures handling the production. Green and Lynch serve as executive producers along with Cory Neal.

Set in the town of Holliston, MA, "Holliston" finds Green and Lynch portraying lesser versions of themselves. They are Adam and Joe, two friends chasing the dream of becoming successful horror movie filmmakers while struggling to make ends meet and dealing with life and the opposite sex in their post-college jobs at a cable access station where they also host a late night movie program called "The Movie Crypt". Snider is Green and Lynch’s boss, who also happens to be a longtime member of a Van Halen tribute band. While he still dreams of being a rock star, he also takes the cable job very seriously and has delusions of grandeur of how he’s part of “Hollywood.” Urungus plays himself and is Green’s “imaginary” friend who happens to live in a closet and gives him advice (extremely misguided and offensive advice).

The Intruder Is Slicing His Way to Blu-ray from Synapse | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

If you've never seen Intruder and are indeed a fan of Eighties slasher flicks, then, boy, are you in for a treat as Synapse Films continues to build its library of cult classics on Blu-ray!

    From the Press Release
Synapse Films is proud to present Scott Spiegel’s INTRUDER, the “holy grail” of extreme gore cinema, in an all-new 2K high-definition transfer of the original uncut, uncensored version. Sam Raimi (director of THE EVIL DEAD and SPIDER-MAN trilogies) and Renée Estevez star in this blood-drenched cult film classic that critics call “a gorgeous low-budget shocker that has long been one of the best kept secrets of the genre scene” (Alan Simpson, Sex Gore Mutants). Be sure to look for Bruce Campbell (THE EVIL DEAD, TV’s BURN NOTICE) in a cameo role.

"It’s 10 pm and the employees of Michigan’s Walnut Lake Supermarket are in for a really bad night. The place is shutting its doors for good, and the night crew has a long shift ahead of them... longer than they think! The lovely check-out girl has a deranged ex-boyfriend, the store’s phone lines are cut and the employees start dying in the most stomach-churning ways imaginable (courtesy of Academy Award®-winning KNB EFX Group). A deranged killer is on the loose in the grocery store! Can anyone stop this murderous intruder?"
    Anyone seen this...Vegashockey? Luc?

BD Horror News - [Book Review] 'Monsters in the Movies' Nothing Short of Stunning

Wow, wow, and…wow. Monsters in the Movies is nothing short of stunning. John Landis’s photographic tribute to 100 years of horror cinema is a veritable treasure trove of dazzling images. Even though I’m constantly emerged in horror books and films, I never truly get sick of horror, but John Landis’s weighty tome (literally; the thing has got to weigh 8 pounds) is a compilation that has completely rekindled my love of the genre.

It’s not a book of film criticism, but rather, as Landis unequivocally states in his foreword, “This is a book with a lot of photographs of monsters in the movies.” And ain’t that the ****ing truth. It’s 320 glossy, full-color pages of glorious cinematic monstrosities, each photo captioned in Landis’s unmistakably witty voice. In between chapters, Landis interviews fellow icons of horror like Sam Raimi, John Carpenter, David Cronenberg, and others. Their widely different answers to a similar set of questions (“How would you define a monster?”) provide an intriguing context to Landis’s glorified photo album.

Get High with Black Forest: Hansel and Gretel & The 420 Witch | Horror Movie, DVD, & Book Reviews, News, Interviews at Dread Central

Anyone who's ever eaten a pot brownie can attest to one thing ... these things can be friggin' lethal as the chocolatey goodness keeps you consuming without any regard for how much THC you're pulling into your system. What better device could there by to trap kids if you're a modern day witch?

According to Variety a trio of indie companies are prepping an alternate take on the Grimm brothers' classic fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel. Duane Journey will direct Black Forest: Hansel and Gretel & The 420 Witch, which concerns "a witch living in Pasadena who lures teens into her house with a special blend of marijuana so she can eat them in order to maintain her youth." David Tillman penned the screenplay.

Twilight actor Michael Welch and "Castle" star Molly Quinn will play the endangered siblings, while Lara Flynn Boyle (Men in Black II) will play the sinister witch.

Production is scheduled to start on November 12th in Los Angeles.
Wow. Didn't you used to be Lara Flynn Boyle?
