Justin Long A CASE OF YOU Interview; Plus Justin Long Talks Kevin Smith’s Horror Movie TUSK | Collider

What are you going to be doing next? Are you working on the Kevin Smith movie, Tusk, or are you focusing on writing the TV pilot, The Younger Man, with your brother?

LONG: I’m doing both. We’re writing the pilot and have some deadlines on that, coming up before Kevin’s movie starts. And then, I’m going to go to Charlotte and shoot Kevin’s movie. I can’t wait! It’s a very bizarre horror movie. I don’t even know what to call it. I don’t know what genre it exists in. It’s a strange movie, but I can’t wait to do it. I just saw my walrus suit. Kevin sent me a photo of it. I’m going to be very claustrophobic for a couple of weeks.

Kevin Smith's Awesome New Horror Screenplay Pits Man and Hell Vs. Jesus! -

I used to be a huge fan of Kevin Smith and still want to be. While I don’t like his online personality, at all, I do want him to make good movies. I didn’t like Red State, but there was promise hiding within. My hope is that Tusk, his horror comedy about a man who is turned into a walrus, connects on all dots and revives my love in Smith’s work. While we wait for that to get released in 2014, Smith is already focused on his next horror project, Helena Handbasket, which aligns mankind with the minions of Hell for war against a giant Jesus!

“The idea is to, once again, take an episode of SModcast and turn it into a movie,” Smith reveals on his Facebook page. “It’s worked out quite nicely with ‘TUSK’ (thanks largely to the cast, the crew and the good folks at Demarest and at a24, who’ll be releasing the flick this fall), so I wanna see if I can do it again.”

Speaking on the plot, “Granted, this time the plot of the movie concerns mankind teaming up with Hell to save existence from extinction at the hands of a Rapturing giant Jesus – which means the budget has to be LOW, because NOBODY’S gonna wanna make that movie. At all. And I know this going in, so I won’t be heartbroken if it never goes beyond the script. But… if the script is funny enough? Who knows? That walrus movie seemed pretty daffy and far-fetched until we were standing on the ‘TUSK’ set bringing that **** to life four months and change after first making it up in episode 259 of SModcast.”

Smith has always been clever in his thoughts about religion, as shown in Dogma, so it’ll be interesting to see what he does with Helena Handbasket. He’s right that nobody will make that movie, but damned if I don’t want to see it. I gave Smith **** for even implying he’d asking his fans to finance his movies – but when you throw out a crazy ass pitch like Helena Handbasket, the only way that’s going to get made it by fans. It’ll be interesting to see if Smith gets it off the ground, and how, but as of right now I’m all-in on behind behind him.

    Finally a Krampus movie????

From Kevin Smith Comes the Krampus - Dread Central

Explains Smith via his blog: If you listen to the EDUMACATION podcast, you’ll remember that episode 20 (Part 2 of the Christmas eps) consisted of another dopey conversation that resulted in a screenplay – a’la SModcast and TUSK. I was goofing around with Mr. Edumacation himself, Professor Andy McElfresh, when we accidentally brainstormed a Christmas horror anthology that would eschew the gruesome spin on Santa Claus, and instead embrace the Scandinavian/German Kid-Eating Christmas creature known as The Krampus. That podcast was released 12/23/13.

It took us less than a month, but Andy and I have finished the screenplay for a flick we’re calling COMES THE KRAMPUS! It’s 99 pulse-pounding pages of what’s essentially SModCo’s CREEPSHOW, with four terrifying tales stitched together by a freaky framing device. It was a blast to write and totally new to me, as I never actually wrote a screenplay WITH someone else before.

And now, to extend the spirit of collaboration even further, I’M GONNA CO-DIRECT THE FLICK WITH THE SMODCO FAMILY! Andy McElfresh will direct the “The Krampus vs. The 3rd Grade” episode (SO ****ed up), Jason Mewes (yes – THAT Jason Mewes) will direct the “Hitler’s Krampus” episode (twisted period piece), I will direct the “Mask Maker” episode (the Gothic horror piece), Carol Banker will direct the “The Proposal” episode (which is ****ing nuts), and Jennifer Schwalbach will direct “The Bad Babysitter” – which is the framing device that holds the whole mess together. Jordan Monsanto will produce for SModcast Pictures and the twin SModCo cherries on the top of this scary sundae? I’m gonna force my Bro Scotty Mo(sier) to act in it and Babble-Meister RALPH GARMAN will feature in every episode!

The script reads like it’s maybe a $2 million movie. We’ll start doing a schedule and a budget next week, but the idea is to shoot it right on the heels of CLERKS III (which I’m hoping to start on April 7th). It’s gonna be fun and a true SModcast Picture! There’s something to be said for the power of podcasting…
