BD Horror News - Kevin Smith Thinks 'Red State' Deserves Awards, Has a Temper Tantrum
see...I am torn here. K. Smith is simply stating the obvious(that Parks/Leo/Goodman are always worth recognizing) and the author of this turns it into a Kevin Smith MeMeMe rant. It's his own fault, but I get why the man wants to step away. I love his honesty and his inability to censor himself damn the torpedoes...but it is to the detriment of his career. Sad really.Quote:
The Independent Spirit Award nominations are in. I truly don't care. What's interesting is Kevin Smith, who just can't seem to stay out of the news (I really wish he would). Via his Twitter account @thatkevinsmith the writer/director of Red State bitched and moaned about his zero noms calling the awards "#fakeindie," which is absolutely hilarious considering that's exactly what Red State was.
"How the **** did the @SpiritAwards NOT nominate Michael Parks? Nor John Goodman? Nor Melissa Leo?" Smith snarled on Twitter. "**** your idiotic organization."
What Smith probably meant to say was: "How the **** was MY movie not recognized? I'm Kevin Smith. I'm awesome!" Don't you dare argue with genius!
While I won't go as far as to say Red State was absolutely terrible, it is included on my "Worst Horror of 2011" feature, and I wouldn't be surprised if the film landed a Razzie nom in 2012. Fingers crossed for justice.
You guys love to hate on us for disliking the film, so go forth and insult away!
John Goodman and Melissa Leo were hardly in that movie and didn't do anything particularly noteworthy in it. Parks.... I mean... ehhhhh fine he had that one speech that was in mildly engaging but honestly... that whole movie is pretty forgettable in general.
When I listen to Hollywood Babble-On or any other show I listen to that occasionally features Kevin Smith.... I feel like I'm listening to a hype-man when he talks about his movie. I've been hearing about this movie for over a year and everything I've heard about it turned out to be completely overblown puffery from none other than the people who made it.
So me personally... I'm not reacting to one tweet or one article. I'm reacting to a years worth of self praise.
