I thought Anti Christ was pretty interesting! I'm not thrilled about his rep about doing misogynistic movies though, that's really not cool with me. Adgy told me about Dancer in the Dark, and I heard it's sad but I don't like Bjork so I don't care. (Oh yeah he told me the end and I said "well that was ****ing stupid.")
Awesome! :good:
I love both. That coffin scene in Vampyr is epic! :D

Do see The Day of Wrath if you get a chance. I dig it. Ordet is pretty awesome too.
BT liked one of Adgy's weird movies? :O
And what's this about not liking Bjork? no:
No seriously, if my roommate wasn't in the room when I saw Dancer in the Dark, I would had cried. cry: mhihi:
Dolphins can get emotional. ;)
A bloody ejaculation scene??? That's "win" in my book!
I thought that whole movie was pretty epic. It still kind of surprises me when movies as old as that manage to be genuinely creepy.
Yeah, one of these days I'll buy that Criterion box set...Quote:

Have you seen any of his other stuff that's available through non-Criterion sources? Like The Parson's Widow, Michael, Chained, etc?
Hey, I was sobbing walking out of the theater after I saw it, too. ****, I bought on DVD as soon as it came out and haven't even watched it again. It was immensely depressing as it was, but the fact that it was Bjork made it even more difficult.Quote:

But I'm not sure if it's sadder than Breaking The Waves or not. That movie ****s me up, too.
Cannes: ‘The Tree of Life’ Takes Palme d’Or; ‘Melancholia,’ ‘The Artist’ and ‘Drive’ Win Big Prizes | /Film
Quote:
Kirsten Dunst was awarded Best Actress based upon her work in Lars Von Trier‘s Melancholia. That’s as good a reason as any to stop obsessing about Lars Von Trier’s silly press conference comments and start talking about the film. (Problem being that most of us haven’t yet had a chance to see the film, while everyone who wants to can see the press conference. Still: moratorium time.) This is the third Best Actress award at Cannes for someone appearing in a LVT film. (Charlotte Gainsbourg in Antichrist and Bjork in Dancer in the Dark being the other two.) Not a bad record for a director who is so often tagged as a misogynist.
Lars von Trier: 'I'm a Little Proud' of Cannes Ban (Cannes 2011) - The Hollywood Reporter
Quote:
“It sounds strange but I don’t like conflict. When I went into the press conference I felt like I should entertain people there,” he said. “Everyone comes to see what crazy thing Lars is going to say. And then I started a sentence which I couldn’t get out of. At the time I didn’t think much about it. Everyone seemed to understand and they was laughter. It’s only afterwards, when you read it: ‘I sympathize with Hitler’ that I thought ‘oh boy.’”
This and this. ;)
Michael.

Ok stuff, but nowhere as good as what he did after.
Have you forgotten? Any movie with the mutilation of male genitalia is entertaining to me.
Adgy put a Bjork song on a mix CD for me and I absolutely HATED IT. I hate the way she sings, I hate the way she modulates her voice, and how her singing is disjointed. It annoys the hell out of me. She also looks like the ****ing creature from Splice.
Give me PJ anyday. And yes Adgy I know it's not a competition but PJ IS BETTER!!!
In Odd Twist, Iran Slams Cannes Over Von Trier Ban – Deadline.com
Oh geez...Quote:
In another Twilight Zone-like twist to Lars von Trier's bizarre Cannes experience, the Iranian Vice Minister of Culture Javad Shamaqdari sent a letter slamming the festival for "fascist behavior" in declaring the Danish Melancholia director persona non grata after his attempts to be funny in declaring himself a Nazi and saying that he sympathized with Hitler. Von Trier hasn't had many come to his defense since issuing those dopey comments, but it is odd to get a statement of support from the same government that gave harsh prison sentences and banishment from filmmaking to two of its most important directors, Jafar Panahi and Mohammad Rasoulof.
