BBC News - Terry Gilliam's battle to release Brazil in US

Hollywood film director Terry Gilliam struggled to get his 1985 award-winning film, Brazil, released in the US.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, the director said it wasn't until the film was recognised at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards that it finally got distributed and released in the US.

The film won best film, best screenplay and best director at the awards and was later nominated for best original screenplay at the 1985 Academy Awards.

Terry Gilliam’s 10 Lessons For Directors Today | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Bonus lesson: And Whatever You Do, Don’t Ever Work With The Weinsteins

I suppose it would have been nice to have made more films in the 71 years that I’ve been hanging around this place. And if I have a regret, there’s only one really, and that was working with the Weinsteins.
    Heh.

Beef of the Day: John Cleese, Eric Idle Wage War Over Spamalot Royalties | Movieline

First came the real talk from Eric Idle revealing why he recently canned fellow Monty Python mate John Cleese from the touring production of Spamalot, the stage musical adapted from their 1974 comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail. “I fired John Cleese — surgically removed him,” Idle told the Telegraph. “It wasn’t mean — he’s had millions of dollars from it. He charges people a fortune for using his voice. He’s always been in financial crisis.” A miffed Cleese took to Twitter to strike back at “Yoko Idle.”

Terry Gilliam Short ‘The Wholly Family’ to Screen Online For a Small Fee | /Film

Briefly: You might remember that we’ve covered the new short from Terry Gilliam, The Wholly Family, a couple times in the past. It’s a weird setup, where Gilliam was one of a number of filmmakers hired by Italian pasta company Garofalo to make short films set in or otherwise concerning Naples. Gilliam’s movie is probably the most high-profile of the efforts, and it follows “an American family vacationing in Naples and the surreal visions of their young son after he steals a Pulcinella—the black masked unofficial mascot of the city—from a street cart.”

Most of us haven’t yet had a chance to see the short, but Anne Thompson passes along word that the film will stream from The Guardian for two weeks starting 7pm GMT on January 23, at a price of 1.99. (Currently about $3 US.) The offer isn’t available to residents of Italy, likely because of licensing concerns, but all other countries can access the stream. Those who check it out right when the film goes live will also get a live interview and Q&A with Gilliam.

MONTY PYTHON Members to Reunite for Sci-Fi Comedy ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING

Those holding their breath for another Monty Python reunion can now rest easy, as it looks like many members from the comedy troupe are set to come together once again; for a sci-fi film, no less. Variety reports that members of Monty Python’s Flying Circus are reteaming for the sci-fi farce Absolutely Anything. The film will combine CGI and live-action, and the Pythons are set to voice key roles “as a group of aliens who endow an earthling with the power to do ‘absolutely anything’ to see what a mess he’ll make of things.” Life of Brian director Terry Jones co-wrote the script with Gavin Scott and will helm the comedy.

The remaining members of Monty Python that could reunite for the pic include Michael Palin, John Cleese, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam, and Eric Idle. Robin Williams is also in discussions to play a Frenchman in the pic, which Jones and Scott have been developing for two decades. There’s no word on when production will begin, but given the undeniably Python-esque nature of the story, count me wholeheartedly in.

Terry Gilliam’s On-Off Quixote Movie Is On Again | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Is Gilliam's constant 'tilting at windmills' to try to make this movie ridiculously ironic or what? I hope, before he dies, he gets to finally exorcise that demon.
