Saw it a few days ago and the more I think about it the more I like it.

Perhaps he will spend more time doing his off the wall indie music stuff.

Man I am soooooooo consumed right now son. Part of me feels that this flick SHOULD have a middlin theatrical run. Most good cult flicks do. I think a reasonable showing(which they have already accomplished) sets up this flick nicely. This SHOULD NOT be a box office smash.

In other news, have you ever seen FEAR X with John Turturro? I was surprised to find that was a NWR flick. I had an unfavorable opinion of it the first time I watched(YEARS AGO), but I put it aside in the new digs for rewatching. Curious to know if anyone else has seen it and what they think of it.

I have not, though I bought a copy after Valhalla Rising. I actually just noticed it on the shelf yesterday and was like "oh yeah, **** I need to watch this."

Ryan Gosling Calls Upcoming Project ‘Only God Forgives’ The “Strangest Thing” He's Ever Read

We haven’t heard much on “Only God Forgives,” aside that it’s about a British gangster who seeks vengeance on a Thai ex-cop, though some new details have emerged from a production synopsis going around. Gosling doesn’t offer a whole lot of additional clarification other than telling press, “It’s the strangest thing I’ve ever read and it’s only going to get stranger.”

The current synopsis we’ve seen elaborates a bit, though we tend to agree with Gosling’s “strange” assessment so far. This definitely keeps the air of mystery around the story intact, but it sounds like and even more interesting follow up from the dynamic duo of Refn and Gosling.

“Julian lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna, arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.”

    Drive: Movie Review

I can easily recommend this film to anyone who loves cars, 80′s music, an innovative story, fascinating characters and/or Ryan Gosling — which should cover a lot of ground. Though it’s a critic-favorite and getting a ton of buzz (and rightly so) there are some aspects to the film that people will have issues with. The film does have some holes and problems that don’t really add up — but what can I say, I had such a goddamn fun time getting from A-to B-both times I watched the film that I can’t fault it for the small things. It’s packed with great performances and is not like any other film you will see this year, or possibly this decade. Take a chance on this bad-boy, it’s more than worth your trip to the theater and even if you don’t like it, you won’t be bored.

    Rating: 8.5/10

This isn't your daddy's action movie. DRIVE delivers the goods with flare

As much as this art-house actioner deserves to be a box office smash, I have my doubts that it will capture wide-spread audiences. True, the movie blogging and critics community are praising the film in unison, but the general buzz after the pre-screening I attended was mixed. Some found it slow (did we watch the same movie?), others complained that there was too much brutality (it's not frivolous but Refn doesn't shy away from a bit of blood and brains) and others didn't care for the music (?!) but those who let themselves be washed in the greatness will emerge refreshed and wanting more.

Drive Costume Designer Erin Benach Answers All Your Questions About Ryan Gosling's Satin Jacket - Hollywood Prospectus Blog

The jacket has a large image of a scorpion on the back — which echoes a line of dialogue late in the movie. Which came first?
I’m going to leave that unanswered, actually. But the logo itself is a reference to one of the first music videos ever made by Kenneth Anger called Scorpio Rising. It was totally a Nicolas and Ryan thing, paying homage to a time of avant garde filmmaking.
Have you been inundated with requests for copies of the jacket now that the film is out?
I definitely have been. And you just might be able to find them online soon.
    Fantastic read, people.
