Sam Raimi directing an Oz prequel with James Franco, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz and Mila Kunis?

I think it's safe to say this is exciting.

‘Mad Men’ Star Abigail Spencer Joins ‘Oz The Great And Powerful’ > The Playlist

Ok, calling Abigail Spencer a “star” from “Mad Men” is a bit much—she did only have a six-episode stint during season four as Suzanne Farrell yet another conquest of Don Draper—but she’s definitely on the rise. She visited the set of “Hawthorne” for an eight-episode run, she’ll appear in “This Means War” with Tom Hardy, Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon, she’s got a part in the forthcoming “Cowboys & Aliens” and it looks like she’s bagged another fantasy role in upcoming tentpole.

Warner Bros. Wins Legal Decision Over Control of ‘Wizard of Oz’ Film Characters; What Does This Mean For ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’?

In other words, WB now seems to own very specific film depictions of characters in The Wizard of Oz, and could therefore lay claim to similar depictions created at other studios. Let’s say… Disney and Oz: The Great and Powerful, for example.

Wow...this has the potential to be as damning as that Superman decision is going to be.

How does this stuff even work? I mean isn't Oz in the public domain? So who's to decide when one OZ project is ripping off another? I am confused.

Where is the Scanners exploding head when one needs it?

Hey man...if anyone owns the rights to likenesses thereof in the Wizard case, it's WB. Talk about making a property your own. Weird though because the Baum books go in sooooooo many directions. Wonder how much wiggle room is going to be exploited.
