Jackie Brown is my favorite of Tarantino's films.

I think all of Tarantino's work has declined. Each movie has some interesting scenes but Tarantino will invariably throw in some self indulgent pablum that lessens the overall work.

I just don't see it that way. I think...creatively...he continues to make movies that take the video store junkie esthetic and actually raise the results to an art form. I can't imagine how anyone watched Inglorious Bastards and came away thinking anything other than what a tremendous slice of almost old school revisionist history it was. Across the board, acting/costumes/sets/cinematography...everything excels. But, ol' Quentin is even slightly less 'root for able' than Kevin Smith. And it almost becomes a case of folks feeling like they HAVE TO toss dirt on his flicks. I don't know. In a world where the bar is set so low at least QT is making his own movies in his own voice. Modern day Kubrick? Perhaps. Closest thing our lousy generation has to one anyway.
Basterds was fantastic. The slow burn of the opening scene on the dairy farm is close to being the best thing he's ever done, as well as one fo the best scenes in film. Ever.
The only movie of his I don't care for as much as his other projects is Death Proof. For a long time, I just couldn't stand it. Then I began telling myself I didn't like it because Planet Terror was so brain-splitting awesome. So, I gave it another chance. My feeling remained unchanged. Other than two GREAT car crashes, I dislike it in a major way.
I'm on a serious fence about Django Unchained. The same fence I was on with Inglorious Basterds. I hope DU has the same effect on me.
I refuse to acknowledge this. QT ain't never had to make no Batman pictures to be able to make his own movies. Try again.
I'm not sure what you are arguing here. First off, I love both of em. Secondly, by their own very nature they tend to grate on folks personality wise. Ok...you want to switch the order and put Kevin Smith in the top spot...ok, but you have to acknowledge that a lot of the flack directed at Tarentino is due to his less than apologetic sense of self promotion. Hard to like someone who likes themselves as much as he does.
