Wow: Ridley Scott To Follow ‘Prometheus’ With ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel > The Playlist

Deadline report that Scott has signed on to direct and produce another film in the “Blade Runner” universe, although it’s unclear whether he’s planning a sequel, a prequel, or, like “Prometheus,” something else entirely. After “Cowboys & Aliens,” Harrison Ford could certainly do with a return to one of his best-known roles, although anyone who’s seen the Director’s Cut of the original knows that there may be certain… limitations about that possibility. Also, Sean Young is still bat**** crazy.

Guillermo Del Toro Says Alfonso Cuarón’s Plans For ‘Gravity’ Are 5 Years Ahead Of Its Time > The Playlist

The director/producer recently sat down with MTV during rounds for “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark” and teased about the epic scope of his friend’s film. Revealing that he put Cuarón in touch with James Cameron regarding some of the technical aspects of the film, he said, “Jim said, well you know, look, you’re about five years into the future. When Jim said that it’s too early to try anything that crazy, they did it [anyway].” Del Toro goes to hint that Cuarón and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki have come up with their own tools and equipment to facilitate the shoot, but of course he can’t quite talk about what the filmmakers are doing that will push envelope—though he does hint we’ll soon find out.

”[They’re] absolutely pushing a new boundary in filmmaking, completely mindblowing. And the way they’re making that movie will, I think, forever change certain types of productions,” Del Toro enthused. “I’m amazed at Alfonso the past few movies because he’s completely transformed himself. [‘Gravity’ is] incredibly well-calculated. Very human, if you know the story,” he also added. So then, here’s the plot: The film is an ambitious, mostly one-character piece set on a remote space station. During an expedition outside the station, only the team leader (Clooney) and his female colleague (Bullock) are left alive after an exploding satellite kills the other members of the crew, setting off a desperate race home for the latter to get to her child.
Really glad to hear this. After having so many actors and actresses sign on and then drop out, I was worried about it.

good grief! if he MUST do it, make it a five-minute short that runs on the Sc-Fi Channel (or whatever they call it now) that just explains what happeneD with Deckard and Rachel, and Gaff.

...and for God's sake, please just EXPLAIN what happened without having to show any of them... Harrison Ford in particular - i don't think i can take any more of him.

Ridley Scott to Direct New BLADE RUNNER Movie

[Update #2] Alcon Entertainment producer Andrew Kosgrove recently gave his two-cents on the project in a discussion with 24 Frames and said that the soonest he could envision shooting beginning is 2013, which gives Scott 18 months to hire a writer, get the script written, cast the film and work on pre-production. This also means that Scott feasibly has time to direct another project between Prometheus and the new Blade Runner film. This means that the earliest we could see the film hit screens is probably 2014. Kosgrove was also asked whether or not the new film would include Harrison Ford, to which he replied:

“In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott, but if you’re asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no. This is a total reinvention, and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting.”

Kosgrove said the film will be created “as separately as possible” from Scott’s original film, and this would be “wholly original.” Although he didn’t confirm whether that meant a prequel or sequel with different characters, a reboot, or something with the original film’s DNA a la Prometheus.
    That should settle some nerves...

    A Blade Runner sequel?

Well, we already got a sidequel, Soldier.

What's next Scott? A Legend prequel?
Only by living absurdly is it possible to break out of this infinite absurdity.

Oh, sweet Jesus. Just saw it and came here to see if it has been noticed. Really, I think there should be more panic. You know the "Slapshot" re-make is next. With Tom Cruise as Reg and Dane Cook as Denis Lemieux.
